After about another hour and a half of waiting in the infirmary, the camp doctor, Mr. Clark, finally let Hunter and I leave.
"Thanks Hunter." I said sitting down on a bench outside the infirmary. "Your welcome Phoenix." Hunter replied, scouting next to me. "Had you not helped get me to the infirmary, I would have probably been lying unconscious near the stage and no one would have known." I explained.
Hunter slid off of the bench, and stood there in front of me"Just friends." Hunter said holding out his hand. "Just friends." I agreed grabbing his hand. He yanked me up, and insisted on walking with me to my cabin. Just to make sure I wasn't going to lose my balance halfway there.
Once we arrived outside my cabin, Hunter finally let go of my hand.
I didn't realize how long we'd been holding hands for, which kind of felt weird. I walked up to the cabin. But before I went in I said"Night Hunter." "Good night Phoenix. See you tomorrow." Hunter responded before running towards the boys cabin. It was dark outside, so I could barely see Hunter as he ran through the campsite.
I grabbed the door handle, turned it, then walked inside. All my cabin mates were staring out the giant front window, even Marie. "Were you guys spying on me?" I asked. "No." Lacy lied. "What was going on between you and Hunter?" Luna asked. "Nothing important." I said. "Please!" everyone except Marie whined.
"Ladies. If she wants to say she can tell us. If not, don't ask." Marie instructed. I looked around. Everyone looked like they were about to cry, it's actually kind of hilarious.
"Please." Katie whispered in my ear. She was so close I could feel her horse shirt rubbing against my back. "I'm gonna get some sleep." I stated. I hurried into the cabin bathroom, and got ready for bed.
After I finished getting ready. I ran to my bed, and silently sat on top of the covers. I grabbed my black backpack and hurried outside.
Most people would think, "Why would someone want to go outside in the middle of the night?" but that only time I could think. I found a hammock near the boys side of camp, and set out all my stuff a small blanket, a charged lantern, my phone, and my book, How to Kill a Mockingbird. "Okay all ready." I said to myself. I sat in the hammock, trying to get comfy.
"Hey Smith, what you doing up so late and out of your cabin?" someone said walking out of the woods. It was Parker. My stupid ex-boyfriend, who could never catch a break.
"What are you doing out here?" I shot back at him. "Same thing your doing." Parker said. "Really," I scoffed, "You came out here to read a book and think about your life." "Not exactly." Parker said more calmly than I thought he ever could.
Parker ran into the darkness, returning with a chair from the assembly that I didn't get to attend. He put the chair down next to me.
"Do you remember why you broke up with me?" I asked Parker. "I don't remember the reasons, just that I couldn't deal with all the added drama that dating you caused." he responded. "What drama?" I asked intentionally. "You know how your friends would always make fun of me, and your not the easiest person to date." Parker stated.
I couldn't believe it, Parker had broken up with em do to drama, drama that he knew would happen. "Is that really the truth?" I rebounded. "Yes, that's all of the truth." Parker said sharply.
That's the thing about Parker, I could never tell what the truth was. That's what made dating him hard for me, I could never trust him. "Well, I'd better get back to my cabin." I lied. "Okay Smith. Have fun this summer." Parker said slyly. Then he turned around and ran back the way he'd come.
