Year 2 Chapter 1 - A Summer of Owling
That summer, Leo and I owled back and forth until Snowy and Tick, Leo's owl, got tired of going back and forth. Well, I was at home, I worked on my latest spell, Levicorpus. The spell takes your ankles and flips you upside down while you're floating in the air. It's a seven-year spell and was hard to master. You can use it in dueling as well. I knew I was a smart student, so I kept trying until I was tried. It really IS hard to master! I thought to myself as I flipped through pages of an old book I found in my dad's library. The book cover was worn so you couldn't tell what the name was, but it had all spells in the wizarding world! Truly amazing right? My dad was right next to me. He was trying to help me learn the spell.
At that time, Snowy flew in with another message.
"It's...form Leo...here," Snowy said. It was obvious she was out of breath. I smiled and took the letter from her talons. Then I put a small bowl of seeds in front of her perch.
"You've earned it Snowy," I said as I winked at her. Snowy nodded her head in thanks and started eating. That's when Graceful came onto my bed and meowed. She said something about food. I'm still learning how to understand animals.
"Are you hungry Graceful?" I giggled as I rubbed her chin. My dad stood up as Graceful started to purr. Dawn came in as well.
"Well, I guess it's time for lunch!" My dad said as he walked to the kitchen. "Let's take a break from the spell shall we sweets? Go feed the cats I'll make your food!"
"Yes, dad!" I called out. I went to the pantry and got a box of cat food. There were 3 bowls at the side of the kitchen. I went over and put the cat food in the bowls. As I did this, Ginger came into the room meowed at me. She was demanding me to pet her. I reached over and patted her head. Dawn then came in front of Ginger and rubbed her forehead to my hand.
"Me too!" I giggled. If you didn't know, when cats do that, it means they're grateful to be with you. Ginger hissed a little, but Dawn didn't care. Graceful was already at her bowl eating. Graceful's bowl had a Ballerina on it. Ginger's had a picture of a bow tie, and Dawn's well a picture of the sun. You could probably tell why. When all the animals were eating, my dad and I sat at the dining room table and started to eat. My dad made omelets and corn beef hash. My favorite!
Halfway into breakfast, someone knocked at the door. "Coming!" I said getting up for my seat. I opened the door to see Leo.
"Hey, Leah! Hope it's okay that I came over." He said. Leo blushed a little and so did I.
"Yeah! That's fine!" I smiled at him. Tick came in after Leo, and he flew over to Snowy.
"How are you?" I heard him say.
"Great now that you're here!" Snowy replied. Birds... I thought as I rolled my eyes.
"What have you been working on?" Leo asked when I was done with breakfast.
"Don't tell anyone!" I whispered to him. I went to my room and took out the worn down book from my dad's library. Leo starred in ah as I opened it to the page of Levicorpus.
"Wait! That's a seven-year spell!" Leo said in surprise.
"Yep..." I said back to him. "This is the spell I'm trying to learn this summer. And don't forget! You can't tell anyone!"
"Why not?" Leo asked with a confused look.
"Because I said so! And besides, I'm still learning..."
"I can help! I've read multiple books on Levicorpus. I can help you learn the spell!"
"That's very sweet of you!" Then, I sighed. "Oh, course you can help." I sit close to him and smile.
