When we first met,
You turned the page in the book of my life and started a new chapter,
One with you in it,
And you scribbled in your chicken scratch "she is to be loved",
Our love was like a rainbow,
With ruby reds of passion
And sunflower yellows of belonging,
The warm browns of the home you made for my heart reflecting off the blues of your truth,
But that home was destroyed by the black of your changing soul,
The walls tumbling down until beneath my feet was nothing but the spilled ink of our chapter,
The purple of your apologies piercing my heart,
For I know that the words you spun were nothing but a tsunami for my mind,
A tidal wave of lies drowning my happiness.
I felt myself suffocating at the hands of your memory,
Each page of our chapter torn and crumbled,
Thrown into the flame of our love,
And here I sit watching it burn
It's ashes stinging my once hopeful eyes
And I'm left with nothing but the remanence of you and I,
Of our growth and our pain,
For our love was a rainbow,
Shining bright after rain.
Though the colors were vivid,
They faded,
And all that's left is your memory,
Replaying in my mind over and over until the dark clouds above me turn bright and blue once again.
And then, only then,
Will I find my new rainbow.
