Without a word the pencils and paper showed up. A stack of plain paper without lines in a package and ordinary pencils, they weren't particularity special or interesting but it was like a precious gift had arrived. She quickly pulled out paper and took to drawing enjoying the feeling of just making shapes at random.
She couldn't draw anything but space and the inside decor of the base at first. Troopers and droids. What few people she had seen. Herself by the window sill. Guards and bridge workers faces came to mind as she had clung to those memories as hard as she could to remind herself that other people did exist. Even if they were just mindless First Order drones.
Eventually she took to trying to imagine other places and worlds. Trees and what animals she could remember. Somehow it was distant but still there, just common knowledge that they were in fact existing. Moons and buildings she made up at random. Happy faces and water. Their sounds and scents far yet still in her mind as warm fond distant thoughts. At least she had those to keep her company in the silence.
She was trapped but in her own way she was happy. Anything to fill the space gave joy and even when her hand grew too tired to draw she thought endlessly of what to draw next. Soon drawings were all over the room and every surface in it. To her relief when paper ran out a trooper brought more with a sharpener. She drew them and herself at times. And eventually she drew Hux. As horrible as he was he had a very beautiful drawable face. A shame to waste such a face on a man like him. She drew several drawings of him as she felt she could never get it quite right.
The intensity of his eyes were most difficult to capture. Such depth and sharpness at the same time, that much different kind of layers wasn't easy to recreate and she wasn't exactly a professional artist. Sometimes she even drew what she thought the trooper who had died might have looked like. But it was too depressing and she always ended up stopping.
The next visit from Hux was not scheduled. As much as he didn't acknowledge it even too himself he had been having dreams. Dreams did not come to the often sleep deprived Hux. They were short sleeps that often felt like he had only blinked. He never paid it much mind except mild annoyance and sometimes wishing he could have a longer rest. But he was too busy and important for that, never time for human weakness.
He disliked dreaming, it brought back things he hadn't thought of for years. He saw his father who he loathed beyond all else having had him killed long ago. Even in dreams he haunted him along with vague memories of his homeworld Akanis. A mother he hadn't met as she was a lowly kitchen woman and the harsh gaze of his fathers wife. Then suddenly at the end he saw legs bare and peeking from a silk dress and would woke with a start.
Great. Now the creature was intruding his dreams. To his own annoyance he had to admit to himself that she was indeed beautiful. He could see why someone as emotionally driven as Ren wanted such a pet or why the rebels would see her as a bargaining chip. A pretty and innocent little thing caught in the claws of the First Order was surely a story that would drive the foolish rebels wild with idiotic heroism.
He tried to forget it and the following day as he walked to the bridge as always his mind crept to her. His thought of being sure she wasn't dead or unusable passing through his head. The curiosity to know how she had busied herself another. Not that he particularly cared but anybody stuck in a room with pencils and paper for days was enough to make anyone wonder what they would make.
Passing her room he slowed to collect his always serious composure before stepping in expecting her to look up in alarm like a scared mouse. But she was fast asleep as she always seemed to be. Nothing else to do but sleep he supposed and she was after all some kind of feline so it made sense. Deprived of hid enjoyment to bother her he almost turned to leave before noticing the paper littering everything.
Hesitating as his interest was peaked he slowly turned towards the center of the room and began stepping further in. Quiet so as not to wake her he glanced around and reached down to pick up one of the drawings. Bending at the knee he scanned across them before selecting the closest one. Lifting it he found a a simple but pleasant drawing of the outside of the room. The hallway outside her doornwas drawn impeccably. In fact it was quite impressive especially for her.
Mildly impressed he made a face and moved on to the next seeing droids and guards sketched roughly but clearly enough to see what they were and the details. She was a talented pet he would give her that. Flipping to the next though he was shocked to see his own face looking back. It was actually very well done and had quite a level of detail he probably could never recreate. So this was how he looked to others.
He couldn't help but note that his expression in the drawing was one that didn't seem particularly angry or serious but relaxed and looking off at nothing in particular. Solemn and handsome even. He didn't know how to feel but was also amazed at how it was almost a photo in a sketched sense. After a moment he let it fall casting a glance towards her sleeping figure and realised this strange moment was going a line too far. Straightening up he quietly cleared his throat and turned to leave without a sound.
Her head turned around once the door closed telling her he was gone. Breathing fast a bit terrified and on edge let out a sigh of relief and relaxed looking up at the ceiling. She hasn't expected him to show up so suddenly so she pretended to sleep not wanting to talk to him. Having heard him flipping through papers and looking them over she felt frankly terrified of what he would do but also utterly confused. She didn't want to share these drawings with him. But also couldn't help but wonder what someone else thought of them.
It was almost too weird of a situation for words and to her shame her face turned red blushing and flustered. Something felt off about all of this and now sleeping bothered het as sometimes when she dreamed she heard his voice. Maybe she should clean up her drawings and not get so carried away.
