We were all seated in Chan's house. His mate, younger sister to Rika, sat beside Chan holding his hand. I'm glad I didn't end up pummeling Chan seeing that his mate was clearly pregnant.
Hyunjin and his mom sat on either side of me. I wasn't holding Hyunjin's hand like the couple in front of us because I was bitter at Hyunjin for keeping this information a secret from me. I looked at him and saw him looking at me with sad, sympathetic eyes that hurt me. But I wasn't about to cave in! He should be sad! He was keeping secrets from me! Secrets that costed lives which was unacceptable under any circumstances!
I think Chan's mate could sense the tension between Hyunjin and I because she quickly tried to divert my attention.
"It's such an honor to meet the Queen. My name is Akita Saitomo."
I shook her hand and introduced myself,
"Brooklyn O'Neil, I apologize for terrifying your pack. I swear it wasn't my intention to be a bully."
It was then Chan who spoke up,
"You're a righteous person just like your father, but with the temper of your mother. About the elves....all of us Alphas knew about it. Your father made a pact with them that allowed them to wander our forests, but when he died that pact died along with him as well as many others. I wanted to help them, but without a Queen or King the only way we could create such a pact is if the remaining pack Alphas all agreed on it."
"Who refused to agree to it?"
"Mainly Ivan. I get the feeling he was intimidating Abdul and Rika to vote against it as well since he's stronger than them."
"Ivan, that terrible man! Well, as Queen I'd like to resurrect my father's pact with the elves! Tomorrow, the mate search will be held in my territory and it could be dangerous for the elves, but I don't think they can wait any longer and I was hoping you'd let them reside in your area for a while."
"I'd be happy to let them stay for as long as they need until they get their strength up. The elves and the wolves go way back as they both inhabit the woods, and I have a lot of respect for them."
I smiled and thanked Chan. We all said our goodbyes when suddenly a short, young man with a very unique chin walked in and looked at me for a second and then looked down.

"Changbin, what is it," asked Chan.
The young man named Changbin looked up at him and then back at the ground. He seemed nervous and embarrassed. He suddenly went to his knees and said,
