CHAPTER TWELVE
"LOSERS!"
"welcome to the wonderful world of starcourt!" the ginger exclaimed excitedly, clapping her together with a proud grin on her freckled face. the girl beside her tilted her head, her eyebrows knotting together.
"max, we've been here a million times." el rolled her eyes playfully, her eyes gleaming as she glanced around at the vivacious displays. max nudged her shoulder quickly before grabbing onto her friend's hand, el yelping at the sudden shift in movement. the two began to laugh with one another as they skipped around the mall. max was leading el to an arbitrary shop, el following closely behind her like a lost puppy.
"there it is!" max gasped in a high-pitched manner, picking up her pace as her legs stumbled behind her. the brunette snickered at her eagerness, her eyes rolling playfully as the two walked into the gap.
"remember i only have thirty dollars, okay? i can get like some jeans and a shirt or something but that's it." el warned as she helplessly watched max scrimmage through the hangers feverishly.
"uh, no way. i'm paying for you." max suggested with a smirk on her face, holding up a shirt against el's chest and scrutinizing the appearance with squinted eyes.
"what? max, you can't do that! i'd feel way too bad. seriously, we don't even need to buy anything i have enough clothes at home." el insisted in retaliation, causing max to throw her head back as she groaned.
"why do you have to be such a good person? just let me do this and feel good about myself," max complained jokingly, causing el to giggle.
"and come on, you're trying to tell me you don't want this for your first day?" max grinned cheekily with raised eyebrows. the ginger held up a yellow and black patterned shirt with high-waisted jean overalls to match, an outfit she had seen el secretly eyeing for weeks. el gave in with a reluctant sigh as she nodded, causing her friend to clap her hands enthusiastically.
"just this once, okay?" el smiled with a tight-lipped grin, max shrugging in return as she walked towards the section of woman's undergarments.
"hey, why don't you get this for the twins?" max joked with a suggestive smirk, holding up a lace bralette that caused el to let out a horrified gasp, her cheeks immediately flushing crimson with embarrassment as she slapped max's arm roughly. max snickered at her friend's reaction, el shaking her head.
"you are so gross!" el responded, failing to contain her laughter as blood ran to her cheeks. her friend grinned back at her as she sorted through various racks of jeans.
"i'm just saying what we're all thinking, my friend." max teased, raising her eyebrows as she scanned the store. her counterpart smugly smirked as she clutched onto the straps of a training bra, holding it up with her dainty fingers.
"hey, why don't you get this for your flat chest?" el retorted sassily, causing max to gasp in fake offense. the girl reached out to snatch the bra from the other's hands, holding it up to her chest as she glanced in a nearby mirror. el's eyes followed her, max shaking her head quickly as she scrutinized herself in the mirror.
"actually, i think this would be a much better fit for you," max fired back, el scoffing as her best friend threw the bra at her. el returned the action, chucking the undergarments right back at her.
