He was only doing this out of necessity, that was what he told himself.
Similar to the way a patient had to take their prescription medications.
Well, the irony of this was that Theo was taking a medication of some sort....
Theo heard Boris explain what it was. Oxytonin... or something like that. He didn't even know how to spell or envision the name of the drug in his head.
It then occured to Theo how naive he was on this whole scheme of taking drugs. "What does... uh...Oxyconan..."
"Oxycontin." Boris interjects as he gets out his own nasal tube and joins Theo in inhaling a strip of the drug.
Theo really thought he would be the one correcting Boris's English, but he was dead wrong. He felt an odd sense of shame for not knowing more about this drug, even though he prided himself on being a well behaved kid. Something about not knowing the basics bothered him.
Maybe it was pride, or maybe it was more like... the need to impress Boris. Yes, impress a stranger that he just met on the school bus.
However at this point, it just felt unfair to call Boris a stranger.
He had known him for less than an hour... and he already felt this strong bond forging between them, even if he didn't want to admit it. Like he could unload everything about his past life to him without any qualms.
Something forging between them that made him feel like he could tell him anything, it sounded an awful lot like he... trusted him?
No, of course not.
This was just someone to help Theo go about his first time taking drugs, kicking back, and trying to forget for once.
Deciding to jump back in after Boris's correction, Theo shifts to sit more comfortably, letting out a pithy sigh. "So, what does it do? When do we know it kicks in?" Other than feeling a tiny more alert, he mostly felt the same.
"Trust me, Potter... you'll know."
"Ohhhh god." Theo was staring up at the afternoon sunshine through the lenses of his round glasses, his eyes not the least bit bothered (well maybe they were, but hell if he knew about it) by the sun's blinding rays. His back was flat against the ground, the swings near him forgotten.
It was like the world was slowly coagulating around him and giving him a nice big hug.
He felt weightless, flying around with nothing to call him back and tether him down. Boris said he had drifted and he needed this to clear his mind, but this also made him feel like he could... drift safely in a way.
Because all the pain had just... departed from his body. Departed and created a gateway to shift around in, to just go around and around and around.
Oh he was definitely grounded to this world, but his mind felt like it could solve the meaning of the world. Oxy... it sounded so innocent but- what it did for Theo? Not as much.
"God Boris, this worked so fast. I-"
Theo stops to suck in a breath, feeling Boris lay down right next to him. Boris was so close that the fabric of their shirts touched and got some of the cheap fiber of his snowboarding t-shirt onto Theo's dull sweater.
"You enjoy it, no? Nice sense of sharpness and smart, make you feel like Einstein." The way Boris said the famous scientist's name sounded more like "ian-stain," and he leans over to grab onto Theo's hand.
That's gay.
That's really, really not normal.
That's got to be suspicious.
