"Hello, Mina," she greeted in a sinisterlysweetly voice, that made my skin crawl.

"I don't understand. Why are you doing this?" I asked desperately. What did I ever do to her that would make her do this?

"Impatient are we? I think it would be rude to start without our other guest," she said gesturing to my mom.

As if she had said the magic words, my mom began to stir, groaning as she lifted her head.

"Mom!" I shouted, trying to gain her attention. I needed to know that she was okay.

"Mina?" she asked confused and groggy. When she looked at me she quickly struggled against her restraints only to find it was no use.

"Awe, how sweet. Mother and daughter reunited," Diana said, disgust lingering in her voice

"Let her go, Diana. It's me you want. Leave my mom out of it," I said trying to beg for my mother's freedom.

"Sorry Sweetie, but she's just as much a part of this as you are. You see, you may be Paul's illegitimate child but she is the one who got herself knocked up and brought you into this world...into my world. The world that took me years to perfect, starting with my nobody mate and making him into the perfect husband and alpha, one that I could manipulate and control. I was the true Alpha. I was the only child to an Alpha so I was next to rule. I wasn't going to let my father's legacy be ruined by a man who didn't know the first thing about leading a pack. When I had Nathan, I insured my line would continue when I'm gone."

"Are you referring to Paul Anderson," my mom clarified, starting to piece together what she was saying.

"Yes, my husband and mate," Diana growled protectively.

"I haven't seen him in over seventeen years," mom defended.

"And that's the way it should've stayed, along with your little brat."

"Excuse you, but you have no right. Paul and Mina found each other and you should be a supportive wife rather than try to keep them apart."

"Oh, spare me. You don't know anything. Besides it's more than them just being in each other's lives," she clarified. She now turned her sights to me. "It's about you and your stupid mate being eligible to be the next Alpha over my precious, Nathan."

"You really think he or my dad would be happy about what you're doing?"

"They won't know anything until it's too late and they'll never know I was involved," she said smugly.

"You're wrong. Josh will figure it. He will never stop looking for the person who took me and when he finds you, he will end you," I said with fire and rage.

"I'm not scared of your little mate, Sweetie."

"Don't underestimate him. I've seen what he can do."

"Oh, I'm shaking." She stepped back so she could now look at the two of us. "The only ones who should be scared are you two."

She took a step in our direction just as the front door opened. "Ma'am, you need to come out here quick."

"Not now, Zander," she said dismissively.

So that was his name. The guy who drove me here was Zander.

"It's important," he informed her which seemed to gain her full attention.

"Fine," she huffed angrily, slamming the door behind her.

With the room now empty and our captors preoccupied, I seized the opportunity to try and escape.

"Mom, start trying to loosen your ropes," I whispered.
