The thing about this life I lead is that most nights, I can hardly sleep. Always on alert and ready to defend what's mine, but tonight my restlessness is due to something else. Something less... admirable. Every time I close my eyes, all I see is blood. The blood of those I was forced to take out last night along side Liam. I know Liam is still worried about me and whether I made it home or not. I don't really care though, he's the reason I'm in this emotional mess.
My first kill was necessary, mandatory.. but the man I killed was deserving of death. I can't help but feel unsure as to whether or not those men deserved their deaths. They were so young and stupid that I'm questioning myself. Tears blur my vision as I ask myself the one question I'd never thought to ask myself. Am I a monster? Sure, the things gangs do are most of the time considered monstrous but... does that make the children of these dangerous gangsters exactly that? Monstrous?
We don't exactly have a choice in the matter of taking part but we do have the choice to leave, never to be seen again. Does the fact that we never made that choice make us bad people? Just because we don't want to live life in constant fear of our families coming after us? Am I a coward for fearing the wrath of my father? The memory of what happened last night makes me wonder if death would be more honorable than this nothing. Surviving but never actually living. I squeeze my eyes shut and grab a cigarette from my bedside table. I bought this pack on the way back considering the circumstances.. and the fact that Daniel confiscated my vape before we boarded the private jet. I knew I'd need it after what happened...
I follow Liam closely and take in my surroundings. Everything is broken and rusty from years of vandalism and rot. Though despite that, it's actually pretty cool looking. If I were a movie producer and I was producing something dark and murdery, this would be the place Id choose. Something about it gives off that creepy but interesting vibe.
"You finally made it." I look over to see a group of young men standing around a suspiciously new pool table on the other side of the factory.
"Couldn't keep her hands off me." Liam smirks at them as we approach, the group laughs amongst themselves.
"You must be Crissy. I'm Anton, and these idiots here are my men." He holds his hand out to me and I take it. For a moment I think he'd simply kiss my hand but he pulls me in for a hug. My shock is evident and he chuckles at my reaction.
"Anton's a hugger." Liam explains when my eyes flick to him in confusion.
"Hey, any friend of yours is a friend of mine Johnny. Now," he pulls back with a kind smile that I hesitantly return. "Down to business." He nods for us to follow him and Liam slips his hand in mine.
This time I'm glad to have Liam's hand holding mine, for some reason it calms my nerves and I feel safe in this situation. Anton leads us to the pool table where his men are gathered. Each and every one of them is at least Liam's age or younger. This confuses me but I keep my mouth shut like I was told. My role is simple, the girlfriend. Don't speak unless spoken to and don't say anything to set these guys off. That should be easy.. for someone who isn't me.
