NEWT'S HOUSE, AFTERNOON

The door creaked open as Newt stepped inside the house. "Tina?"

There was no response. "Tina, Jacob!" He called again, but the house was silent. He decided to check the basement.

Calling their names, he searched the basement. He checked every room, but the basement was deserted. He hurried back up to the house with his suitcase in hand.

On the coffee table, he noticed a cup of cocoa and a book open and face down on the couch. The mug felt slightly warm when he touched it. It seemed as if Tina had been here earlier, reading.

Checking in Jacob's room, he also found a cold cup of cocoa. They must have left recently, he realised, but why?

He noticed a small slip of paper by the front door when he went back to the living room. In neat, cursive writing, it read:

Newt,

Jacob gone to the harbour under enchantment. I've left to find him.

Tina.

LONDON HARBOUR – AFTERNOON

Blocked by the immense crowds around him, Newt attempted to weave his way through. "Tina!"

"Newt!" He heard someone call from afar, just loud enough for him to hear.

"Tina– I'm coming!" He yelled back, now pushing his way past people. The crowds only became more dense as he came closer to where Tina had shouted from. Knowing that it would be impossible to get through, he disapparated.

He apparated a few metres from where Tina and Jacob were. Through the crowd, he could see her grabbing hold of Jacob's wrist, and Jacob forcefully yanking his arm out of her grip. Newt could see that his eyes had become orange, as if fire was burning in them.

"Queenie needs me!" He shouted at her, pointing to a boot on the ground, "She made this portkey for me so I could get to her!"

"Jacob, she doesn't need you!" Tina insisted, yelling back at him, "she's not in danger, she's not "being chased by the Ministry– I thought you believed she worked there, for Merlin's sake–"

"You think that she doesn't need me?" He asked, staring at her in detest, "You think that she's going to be just fine if I don't go and help?"

Newt noticed a few tears fall down her cheeks as she stopped yelling and spoke in a pained voice. "Jacob... she doesn't love you."

Then he hit her.

Curling his hand into a fist, he threw his arm at her jaw. Tina staggered back, clutching it.

In an instant, Newt ran in front of her, yelling at him, "STAY AWAY FROM HER!"

The boot began to shake. The two men realised that the portkey was going to leave soon.

"I will," Jacob replied, picking up the boot.

"Jacob– no, put the boot down– Jacob! JACOB!"

In his desperation, he grabbed the portkey and attempted to yank it out of Jacob's arms, but his grip was too firm; the portkey rose into the air, Jacob and Newt clutching onto it. Before he could let go, he found himself standing in a lush, green environment.

As soon as she saw the portkey rise up, Tina withdrew her wand and cast a non-verbal healing charm to her jaw and it instantly healed. "NEWT!" She yelled, running forward, but she was too late.
