FAR FROM CASTELOBRUXO, MATO GROSSO – NIGHT
Tina pushed past leaves and fronds. The sun was setting fast, leaving her with her wand as her only source of light.
The jungle was like walking through a maze; she had completely lost a sense of direction, because everywhere she looked, there were the same trees and bushes. Instead, she had to rely on the compass.
She began to wonder how close she was getting to the school. She withdrew her wand and put her ear to the tip, and the other end expanded to the end of a horn.
"She teaches transfiguration..." Tina heard someone say from afar through her wand. They must be a student, She thought, I must be getting close. But when she listened closely to the conversation, she realised who it was.
"...at Ilvermorny, and I teach flying lessons to first-years."
Someone chuckled.
"Newt, why are you laughing?"
Tina ran off into the rainforest, heading straight towards where she had heard them from. After a while, she paused and raised her wand to her ear again. She could hear footsteps among leaves and Jacob say, "It's Queenie. There's nothing to worry about."
Tina bolted through the jungle even faster. She could hear footsteps on leaves without the help of her wand, now. They grew louder as she drew nearer until she was standing near two feet; nobody visible, just two shoes treading carefully past trees and bushes. She realised that whoever was there was hidden using an invisibility cloak.
She leapt forward, going to grasp the cloak from them, but stepped on a stick, making a loud, crunching noise as it split in two.
Up ahead in a clearing, somebody stood up to peer through leaves and fronds; she could make out Newt's features by the light of the campfire he stood by. He must have not recognised her, as the fire was put out and he and Jacob entered the tent.
The person in front of her wrapped in the cloak must have heard her step on the stick, for she could see their wand poking out from underneath the cloak. Before she could react, she felt her body stiffen. She lost her balance and fell face-first into the dirt, her body frozen in place. She was paralysed.
There was the sound of the tent being zipped open, and someone being choked; Tina desperately wanted to get up, to see what was going on, but she couldn't move an inch. She felt like screaming in frustration.
"Queenie?" She heard Newt say.
The freezing charm was wearing off, as she could move her fingers. As soon as she could move her legs, she stood up and ran into the clearing.
Queenie stood by Jacob, her eyes glassy and unfocused and her knotty hair longer than usual. An invisibility cloak lay by her. Newt was standing behind them. She could see marks on his neck; finger marks.
Tina ran forward and wrestled her sister to the ground. She withdrew her wand and held it to Queenie's throat.
"Tina, no!" He yelled.
Tina hesitated, then took her wand away from Queenie and let her stand up.
Newt cast a spell at Queenie, and her eyes returned to normal.
"Tina?" She asked uncertainly, stowing away her wand, "Newt? Jacob?"
"Why'd you leave me?" Tina demanded.
"Teen, I'm really sorry, I really am. I made a mistake to join him."
"You had three years to come back to me," She said in what she had hoped to be an angered tone, but failed to hide the sadness in her voice.
