"You can't wake up, this is not a dream."
-Halsey, GasolineJackson POV
Shitfuck, I have a crush on Ramona Gibbler.
Nononononononono this is not happening, this is a nightmare. I'll wake up, and this will be a funny joke, and I won't have feelings for her.
Yeah right; wishful thinking Fuller.
Go figure, the one girl I refuse to date or have a crush on is the one who I have one on. This is not epic. Not epic at all.
How am I supposed to act around her now? We're not even speaking, so any and all interaction isn't going to be the way it was before, but now, on top of that, I like her.
What if she likes me back? That would be awesome. And unlikely. I mean, come on, while I'm sure every girl wants a piece of me, the one exception to that who's straight is Ramona Gibbler.
Sat on her weird bedspread that her and Aria picked out a few months ago- "It's abstract, Jax. Classy. Chic."-, I realize that I must look like such a creep right now, sitting on her bed after she walked in here naked and staring at the door anxiously.
No episode of TV has prepared me for this one, so looks like I'm on my own here. Time to strategize, Fuller. Okay, so you like your best friend. She's a girl, you're a guy, both of you are straight and attractive. She also probably hates your guts because you threatened an entire grade of boys if they broke her heart.
The first half is a cliché, liking your best friend. The second is probably unique to this situation. Well, no, actually, it's probably happened before, but not an entire grade worth of people, maybe one dude, three max. I threatened at least 50 times that many.
Why must I be so overprotective? Honestly. It's concerning. I don't even know why Ramona's friends with me anymore after this. Despite what Marley said, friendships are not always tested like this, all the time. Actually, rarely are they tested like this.
How am I going to get her to still be my best friend after this whole debacle? Yes, we've had our fights before, but we always make up within a few hours. Except for my sixth birthday party. We weren't friends for seven years after that. Oh God, what if it takes us that long to become friends again? What if we're never friends again?
This isn't how it's supposed to happen; I'm supposed to be the maid of honor at her wedding and she's supposed to be the best man at mine. How is that going to happen if I can't even speak to her?
"Jackson, why the hell are you still in her room?" Sky asks when she enters the room, rolling her eyes slightly. Her dark brown hair has been curled today, and she pushes it behind her ears, doing what I call the "double tuck." She does it all the time.
"Because when she came in here, she took off the towel."
"What the hell? She just came in here, saw you, and then dropped her towel? This is Ramona Gibbler, idiot. What really happened?"
"You're no fun when you're angry," I note before continuing, "But she didn't know I was in here until I spoke, which was after she dropped the towel. She then ran off, embarrassed."
"You see, that, I believe. So now, you're just sitting in here like sone creepy stalker, waiting for her to enter so you can..."
"Talk to her about this, and get us back to normal."
"You told an entire grade of boys not to break her heart or you'd break their bones, dipshit. We're past the point of you two going back to normal. You two were never normal friends, anyways. You were this weirdly cohesive unit that would always know what the other needed. It was adorable."
"Were? Was? Sky, are you saying that her and I may never be friends again? I mean, come on, it has to take more than a little fight for us to stop being friends, right?"
"This isn't a typical Jamona fight, Jax. This is one where the two of you haven't been each other for three days. Three days! That's the longest since you two became friends that this has happened. This isn't going to just go away."
"One, is it necessary to use a ship name right now? Two, I know, Skylar. I'm trying to fix it! But she won't even talk to me, forget about being my best friend!"
Just as Sky opens her mouth to say something in response, Aria runs into my room, tears brimming in her eyes.
"Ar? What's wrong and do I need a shovel?" Sky asks as I embrace the short girl in a hug.
"It's Ramona."
And with those two words, my entire world comes crashing down.
