Becky G ~ Mayla Baker
________________________________The breeze felt wonderful on my skin. The sunrise was amazing at this time of day, especially when nobody is up. It's just so peaceful. The birds chirping, singing songs and flying around, it's just beautiful. I love running, it gives me life and motivates me for my day ahead, even if I don't want to continue with it. I looked down at my watch and it was currently 6:30 am on a Monday. I was jogging around my neighborhood. This is my usual daily routine besides on Saturday and Sunday. You know a girl gotta get a break once in a while. I had on my gym clothes. I had a pair of blue shorts on with black leggings under them, then I had on a blue sports bra on with a black jacket and Adidas on.
I usually jog for about an hour and head back home to take a shower. I had 30 minutes left so I kept jogging. The sky was pink and orange, it was just gorgeous. I slowed down and took my phone out my pocket from my jacket. I unlocked it and scrolled to the camera and I brought it up to the sky, I clicked the white button and took a few pictures. I examined my creation and decided it was good enough for me. I'm not a photographer or anything like that but if something captures my attention like the sunrise for example then I'll take a photo.
7:00 am
I started to head home. My house is a normal sized house, it's not like a mansion or a very small house, I like to say it's a medium sized house, a two story. Behind and on the side of my neighborhood, a small forest surrounds it. I live in Iowa, by the way. As soon as I seen my driveway I slowed down a bit. I walked up to my steps and unlocked the door.
Once I was inside I closed the door. As I was about to start walking to the shower my mom shouted at me.
"May come get your breakfast!" She yelled.
Oh my gosh. I'm literally right here, why is she yelling.
"Okay I'm coming." I said.
I ran upstairs and got fresh clothes out and sat them on my bed, then I ran into the bathroom and hopped in the shower. While I was in there the hot water was running against my smooth skin. I love hot water, it just relaxes me at a really high level it's like my mediation or my high. I was only in there for about 10 minutes because I had to hurry up. I went back into my room and changed.
I came downstairs and seen my mom putting my plate on the kitchen table. I put my bag down near the couch and walked back to where my mother was standing.
"Good morning mom." I said.
She looked at me with a bright smile and gave me a side hug.
"Good morning baby. How was your run?" She asked me.
I let go of her and walked over to where my plate was and sat down in a chair to eat my breakfast. I grabbed the silverware and picked my waffle up to take a bite.
"It was good as usual mom." I told her.
She usually ask me that every time I go out for a run, but I'm glad she does. I put my fork down because I felt someone staring at me. So I looked up and it was my mom apparently. I looked into her dark brown eyes. My mother has dark silky hair, fair skin tone, her face is shaped like a heart, her cheek bones are high and defined and she has the sweetest smile you could ever see. My mother is Hispanic and my father is mixed with black and white.
I scrunched my eyebrows together in confusion because she never really looks at me like this, I means she does but this time it's different. It's like she has something to tell me or she's sad about something. I can't tell. I put my fork down and kept my glance on her.
"Mom what's wrong?" I asked.
This seemed to snap her mind out of the gutters. She came over and grabbed my plate and walked back to the sink to wash it.
"Nothing honey." She simply said.
I know my mom and if her response is dry and simple then she doesn't want to talk about it or it's really bothering her. Her expression was unreadable this time. I got up and slowly walked over to her. I grabbed her hand and turned her around to face me. Eye to eye.
"Mom, please tell me what's wrong?" I said with sympathy.
She looked up and smiled, with tears in her eyes.
"Oh my May! I'm just going to be sad that'll you'll be leaving me soon off to college." She said.
She grabbed me and hugged me real tight. I wrapped my hands around her and hugged her back. I felt tears roll down my back. I rubbed her back to comfort her.
"Mom you'll be okay, I'll visit and you still have dad." I told her to comfort her.
I felt her nod against my back. I let go of her and I grabbed her shoulders and looked into her eyes and I wiped away one of her tears.
"Mom, I love you." I said to her.
"And she's not leaving forever you know. We can still call her everyday if it calms you down a little, darling." My dad suggested.
My dad had came down in his pajamas. He had a strong jawline, green eyes and he also had a few freckles. I get mine from him. He came towards her and grabbed her shoulder. I stepped away and smiled at them.
"Yeah okay." My mom said.
"We both love you very much Mayla." My dad said.
I rushed over to my dad and my mom and gave them a big old bear hug. We all needed that at this moment. We stayed like that for at least a few minutes. We all finally let go and we all was smiling at each other. I stepped back and grabbed my phone and backpack.
"Okay guys I have go to school. You know it's the first day and everything." I told them.
"Ah yes we know honey. You always do great in school. We know we don't have to worry about you. You are so independent and intelligent." My dad reminded me.
I smiled and nodded my head. I grabbed my things and headed out the door.
