Before me was a man in his early thirties. He was faired skinned and he had blond hair that slicked down to the nape of his neck in waves. His eyes were a piercing blue that matched his harsh looking features. He was currently bound to an old wooden chair with bruises forming on his face. Burn marks marred his bare torso but he was stoically still.
"The man won't budge,"my father said as he circled around him. He grabbed his hair and yanked his head back, "You can make this easier on yourself you know. End the torture now by telling us what we want to know and we will be merciful in your sentencing."
I have seen the cruel side of my father before, but it continued to astound me. My father was not the kind man that he portrayed to the people of our Kingdom. Those who crossed him however, will forever bear the consequences of his wrath.
He did not respond in any way so my father let go of his hair and walked over to me with anger falling off of him in rivulets. "Do what you must, but get him to speak."
"You expect me to abuse my gifts for information we should all ready have?" I was in disbelief. It just made no sense to me. The information my father wanted was already in our hands. The murdered general did not have any unknown information, she was one of our own. I'm sure my father was doing this just to satisfy the sadist inside of him.
"Son, we have a Rolonian lieutenant in our possession, anything he knows could be of use to us and we need to know what kind of information they are after. Now do as I say, " he had pulled me to the side. I could see the cruelty in his eyes and looking into those brown depths I could not help but resent my father. I wanted to rebel and say no, but I was smarter than that. Being his son would not give me immunity. He would try me for treason if I did not oblige.
Giving him a scowl, I jerk my arm out of his grip and walked over to the lieutenant. I smiled sadly as he looked at me. His expression was one of a defeated man.
"I suppose this is where the pain begins again? " his voice was laced with agony and I knew then that my father had him tortured in more ways than what I could see. I did not care what despicable things he had done, he was still a man and did not deserve this torture.
I nodded slowly and whispered I was sorry and that it would not pain him too much. I tilted his face back and forced him to look into my eyes. His face grew tense and he shifted uncomfortably. My eyes, whether they were normal or shifted, had an intensity many people found intimidating. It was rare to find someone I didn't make uneasy.
"Do it Lucian! " my father yelled at me.
His eyes dilated in fear as mine shifted. I dug my nails into the back of his neck as I focused on the last seventy-two hours of his memory. I had only done this four other times and each time killed me. I hated having to go through with it this way, but unfortunately for him, it was my only option. There was no making this easy on him.
I was pawing through his mind. I scanned through his memories overlooking his daily routines. It was when he was given orders to come to Scanra that I really dove into the memories. It was a strange feeling being inside of his head reliving every memory. I could recall the direct words of the King, how he sounded, and even what he smelt like. It was then that he began to whimper in fear. He could feel me in his head and realized he was paralyzed. His whining however was now being drowned out by the torturous screams of Beatrice, our general. He punched her three times and grabbed her chin. "Tell me what King Nicholas plans on doing with my brother's wife."
"What are you talking about?" She was genuinely confused but his anger blinded his reasoning. He smacked her across the face with all his might. Blood sprayed from her mouth and trickled down her face staining her fair skin.
"Queen Rose of Rolon, where is she and what does Nicholas plan on doing with her?"
She denied knowing what he was talking about again, but he didn't care. She denied and denied but he did not believe her. I recall the feeling of guilt but it was only a brief feeling he had. A darkness washed over him and held him with an iron grip. He thought of ways to use her before he killed her. She was no longer of use to him except to relieve his aching libido.
This is when I chose to leave his head. He had covered her mouth again and I could not stand to relive how he raped and slowly killed her.
I stepped back away from him completely withdrawing from his mind. His whimpering did not stop as he felt the after effects of what I had done. He was now feeling a faint burning sensation in his head that was caused by my anger in what I saw.
I smacked him hard across the face and grabbed his chin just as he had done with Beatrice. "You are a disgrace to all men you filthy piece of offal! How dare you abuse a woman in the way you have?" I smacked him again hard knocking him out.
I turned around and my father was looking at me with surprise. He said as much that I'd hit him. "I don't approve of men abusing of women father. No matter who they are." I said with emphasis.
I knew what he had done and was dissatisfied with him. Somewhere in our kingdom Queen Rose is held captive because of my father's greed. No wonder Kind Daniel has sent more than a dozen men here. He is looking for his wife and is trying to avoid conflict. It is my father that is endangering our Kingdom. I was angered at his audacity but knew if I said something now I would never get out of this bunker so when he asked me what I got from him, I lied.
"You mean to tell me all you saw was him being sent here and Beatrice being raped? He spoke naught of what he was looking for?"
"No, I could see him speaking, but if he does not remember what he said, then there is no way I could extract that from him."
My father looked unconvinced and he narrowed his eyes. "You're sure?"
"Positive. He doesn't remember. Try him for rape and murder, but thats all he has done. There is nothing else useful here." My voice was curt and I knew he could feel my rage boiling inside of me.
I turned away to leave but my father grabbed my arm to stop me. "Yes father?" I asked evenly without turning to him.
"What did King Daniel say to him?"
"To come here and find out what he could, nothing specific." Even though he had said to find his Queen, I wouldn't tell my father even if that was a treasonous act.
"You wouldn't be lying to me, would you?" My father said dangerously as he tightened his hold on my arm and yanked me back enough so he could see my face.
"Of course not," I said with a faint smile on my face. I hesitate, as if recalling a memory, "Oh, you should know, he is King Daniel's brother. That is all." I held his gaze with a glare in my eyes until he grew uncomfortable and let me go.
He would be satisfied with that sliver of information. At least for now.
I walked away slowly until I was out of the bunker. Once I reached ground level I ran up to my quarters. I needed to make sure Jessamine was okay. I needed to be away from this madness and just be by her side.
She brought me peace despite the burning desires she sent through me. My soul longed for her in ways I never knew could exist. It was more than a physical pull and I would listen to the calling.
