To be an interesting, famous, talented and respected human being was always my first endeavor. After finding my place and my vehicle, it was up to me to make my life produce a story I would be proud of. Imagine my experience of becoming a businesswoman in my fifty's! I had a feeling for business growing up in show business, and I had the discipline. Alfred has passed away and the board at Pepsi thought I would be an asset to the company working in a public relations capacity. However, as pleasant as all this sounds the reality was quite different. Yes, Alfred had died and yes, I did have experience in the working world. Pepsi would have gladly used me for publicity purposes as long as I was valuable to the company. And there was the million dollar debt incurred on the renovation of our Fifth Avenue penthouse. Thank god for my experiences dealing with L.B. Mayer and Papa Jack Warner, because this movie queen learned how to beat those mean male bastards! I set about to shame Pepsi by using my power to inform my public that the company was trying to force me out, and the sympathy they showed me went on to dominate the headlines. Only then did Pepsi reinstate me to the board and for another fourteen years I had a second career. What made this situation even more satisfying was that I had secured Alfred's legacy, I had a purpose in raising a new child named,"Pepsi-Cola", and I paid back that debt. All this at a time when women were, and are still, discriminated and undervalued. This was my most satisfying triumph in the business world.
