"Iwa-chan~"
Iwaizumi took a deep breath inside, pressing the volleyball tightly and trying to control his anger. He despised that nickname. That infuriating voice could only belong to the one and only...
"Kyyaaa! Oikawa-san!"
And cue the screams of the fangirls. Honestly, his headache wasn't getting any better with their shrieks. Oikawa smiled, turning to face the fangirls and waved at them.
"You guys look really pretty today."
"There he goes again.. Seriously, how is he our captain again?"
The question wasn't meant to be taken literally. It was obvious why Oikawa Tooru was their captain. He was aloof, smug and had the complete sass oozing out of him, not to mention the complete swagger he walked with. He was popular with the ladies, but beneath his flirty, cheerful exterior was a guy capable of being serious when the situation called for it.
He was all hard work and determination.
Of course, he was petty, arrogant, brash, childish, a complete trash bag but most of his teammates tried to overlook the negativity and saw him for who he truly was.
Look underneath the underneath.
He brought out the best in others. So far, only Iwaizumi was aware of how Oikawa Tooru's real behavior was. The inferiority complex, brought out because of his kouhai dubbed 'Tobio-chan~' and the repeated failures of trying to defeat Shiratorizawa's ace, Wakatoshi Ushijima made him resent volleyball prodigies but thankfully not volleyball itself.
He often let his insecurities get the best of him and often, Iwaizumi had to knock some sense into him. Quite literally, sometimes.
However, today was not one of those days. Today, Oikawa Tooru was genuinely happy and therefore, his extravagant behavior was even more today, going as far as to compliment the girls whom he usually smiled at, nothing more.
"Omg Oikawa-san told me I looked pretty!"
"No way Mika-chan, it was me!"
"You guys are full of yourselves. It was me he clearly looked at. He even winked!"
Oikawa laughed nervously, turning around and walking towards his best friend as he left the three girls arguing. He wasn't trying to cause a drift between them.
He was a nice guy after all.
"Iwa-chan! Guess what?"
"What?"
"You have to guess!"
Iwaizumi considered it for a moment. There were very few things which got Oikawa riled up like that. In fact, he knew what might be the answer. He sighed, throwing the volleyball into the air and doing a normal serve. It was nothing too strenuous for the coaches had told him to rest anyways. He was recovering from a mild sprain.
"Your cousin?"
"Bingo! You got it Iwa-chan! Haya-chan is coming over from Tokyo to visit her big brother, me! She's coming today! In fact, she might already be there at home."
