This is probably Hayami's aesthetic mood board when she's in her last year of middle school and first year of high school.

Her behavior changed over time and so do the mood boards to show her progress!

Maybe it was the thrill of finally having friends; maybe the thrill of finally being in a warmer country, or maybe it was just her positive attitude towards everything which lead to this. Akane knew that the raccoon staring at her would not judge her, even though society did.

It was good to know that he (or she) wouldn't give two shits if Akane turned up late to class and instead of getting judgmental stares from her classmates, she'd see the critter just sitting their without a care in the world, it's eyes passive.

Sometimes, she wished humans were actually raccoons in disguise. They'd be so much easier to understand.

It was something she thought occasionally. Her friends were gossipers - both bold and kind. Scratch that. The last adjective was a lie. They were far from kind. But in the end, they still accepted her. And Akane was thankful for that.

In the group, she wasn't close to anyone in particular; maybe except Funai, but even so Akane was doubtful. Funai was the rational one. She was smart, but so very bland and a big rule follower. For some reason, that really grated on Akane's nerves. It was almost... annoying to see someone righteous and so emotionless and dead inside.

Needless to say, Akane didn't get along that well with her. The only redeemable quality was, perhaps, her strong sense of justice. She was studying to go into the police force so it made sense to a certain degree.

The four girls knew each other from middle school and sometimes, Akane felt like an outsider. In more than one way, the group didn't fit her. The only thing which attached them was their love for makeup and hair accessories.

It was clear to say that other than Mae who absolutely adored her, no one really connected with her. She preferred books over movies, they preferred movies and TV shows over books; she preferred late night talks on obscure topics, they preferred gossiping. There was just no vibe.

Months had passed — four to be precise. Oikawa Hayami was friendless as ever, and Akane felt pity for her. But it didn't seem to bother the brunette as much as she thought it would. Regardless, Akane made no attempts to talk to her again unless it was about school projects.

"Aka-chan, what do you think?" Mae twirled around in her skirt, looking pleased at her selection of clothes. Looking at the mirror, she struck a pose. "I didn't know this shop had such great clothes for a cheap price."

"Are you blind Mae?" Uchino scowled, grabbing the new shirt and looking at the price with a deadpanned look. "It's expensive as hell, even after the discount. We don't even have jobs yet."

With a reluctant look, Mae pouted and returned to the fitting rooms to get back into her school uniform. Akane wordlessly got up from her seat and walked into an aisle. Truthfully, she didn't like much of the clothes here. They were too constricting, too closed off in her opinion. There weren't any tops with cold-shoulders or even nets.

They were cute but... not really her style.

Turning to Yagi who was scrolling through her phone, Akane held up a green sweater and brought it to her chest.

"Yagi, how'd this look with a skirt?"

She looked up from her phone and gave a thumbs up. "The green suits you because you have red hair. Man, I'm almost jealous!"
