After school, Indi had dance and then she'd planned to meet up with Kai. Her ballet class was taking a break, so she was focusing on ballroom tonight. As they danced around the room, she chatted with Antonio.
"You know, the winter dance is coming up soon." Antonio said, with a grin.
"I do know." Indi narrowed her eyes at him. "How do you know?" Antonio did not go to school with her and Karmen. He went to a private school in the next town over.
He looked proud of himself. "I may have gotten an invite from a pretty little lady from your school."
"What? Who?" Indi feigned surprise, teasing him. She actually wasn't surprised. Anytime her friends saw Antonio, they tried slipping him their number.
"Chloe Feralto."
"Ooh, good choice. Cute and super nice." Indi leaned back as Antonio dipped her towards the floor. They straightened up as the song ended and turned to the other couples, clapping as the class ended.
"I know." Antonio grinned again. "So, are you going?"
Indi's thoughts turned to Kai. "Oh, uh, I'm not really sure."
"What do you mean? What about that guy you were with at the fair?"
Indi shrugged. "We'll see, I guess."
Antonio frowned. "He better treat you like a princess."
Indi laughed, gathering her things. "Thanks for the concern, but I'll make sure he treats me right."
Antonio gave her a hug and headed out the door. Walking towards her car, Indi noticed a tall figure leaning against her driver's side door. She panicked for about half a second until she realized it was Kai.
"Hey," She greeted him, a smile taking over her face. "I thought we were meeting at the cafe?"
Kai straightened up and wrapped her in a hug, taking her bag from her. "I decided to surprise you. I had Aiden drop me here, so you can chauffeur me around town."
Indi laughed, "Well, that sounds good to me."
Kai tossed her bag into the back seat and climbed into the passenger side.
They'd been driving for a few minutes when Kai said, "Hey, go down this road. I want to show you something."
Indi frowned in confusion, but did as he said. "Okay, now stop here." He told her.
Indi pulled over to the side of the road, and stopped. "Where are we?" It looked as if they were in the middle of nowhere.
"You'll see." Kai gave her a smile and hopped out of the jeep.
"I'm not really dressed for walking around in the cold." Indi told him, with a shiver.
Kai reached back into the jeep and pulled out his sweater. He tossed it to Indi and she pulled it on, inhaling the smell of him on the fabric.
Indi followed him and frowned again as he headed towards the trees. "Kai!" She hissed. "Where are we going?"
He glanced back at her, amusement dancing in his eyes. "Why are you whispering?"
"I don't know." Indi whispered. "This feels sketchy."
Kai chuckled. He reached for her hand and interlaced their fingers, leading her along behind him. FInally, they came out of the woods onto the edge of the lake Indi had shown Kai. Except they were on the opposite side this time. There was a log along the side of the bank and Kai led Indi over to it. As he sat down, he picked up a bag that had been sitting next to the log.
Indi gasped, "You brought treats! You planned this!"
Kai laughed. "Yes, I did." He handed her a coffee and a cookie.
"Ohhhhh, you're awesome." Indi breathed, wrapping her cold hands around the warm cup.
"So. I wanted to ask you something." Kai began.
Indi's stomach fluttered nervously. "Okay?"
"Do you want to go to the dance with me?" Kai said, abruptly, trying to get the words out quickly as if he was nervous too.
Indi whipped her head around to look at him, a grin already spreading her lips. "Of course!"
Kai laughed and wrapped his arm around her back, hugging her into him. "Good. I was nervous to ask you."
Indi rolled her eyes. "You can't possibly have thought I was going to say no."
Kai shrugged. "There's always a chance."
Indi shook her head and snuggled into his side. They looked at the stars, murmuring to each other every once in a while, until Indi was officially frozen. They trekked back to her jeep and headed home.
Author's note: I'M SO SORRY, GUYS! I was hit with some serious writer's block and I was avoiding my book, but I'm back now and I have the rest planned, so hopefully that doesn't happen again! Thanks for reading! You're all the best!
