Grey strolled into Indi's room and dropped down onto her bed.
Indi paused her work on her hair and raised an eyebrow at him. "Can I help you?"
"Mom thought you two might need help getting ready so she sent me in here." Grey smirked.
Karmen, who was slipping into her heels, snorted and rolled her eyes.
Indi glared at her brother. "Ha ha. Go bug someone else. Where's your friend? What's his name? Marshall?"
"Marcus." Grey stood to his feet. "And he's busy and I'm bored."
"That's bad news, buddy, but we're already late, so, uh-" Indi gestured for him to leave her room.
Grey sighed dramatically and dragged his feet out of her room. "Fiiinee."
As he walked out the door, the doorbell rang. "Oops!" Grey called as he walked down the hallway. "Time's up!"
Indi growled in frustration and rushed to finish getting all of her things together. Her and Karmen were all dolled up and ready for the dance. The girls made their way down the stairs and saw Kai and Aiden waiting in the living room for them. Kai was looking great in a simple black tux, where Aiden was rocking a full-on white tux because he was just too extra to do anything normally. Grey was standing off to the side, his arms crossed, giving the two boys his "protective brother" stare-down.
Aiden was holding a red rose and when he saw Karmen he offered it to her with a grin. His eyes had widened fractionally when he saw her and he was looking at her as if they were the only two people in the room.
Kai handed Indi a pink rose and she quirked her eyebrows at him, in question, but she accepted it, with a smile.
"I thought pink suited you better." Kai told her with a shrug and a sweet smile.
"It does." Indi said, pleased, as she slipped her hand into his.
Indi's mom came rushing down the stairs with her camera oohing and aahing over the couples. After taking a few pictures and doling out some rules, she ushered them out the door.
"Are we ready to go?" Indi asked the group, checking to make sure she had everything she would need.
"Yup. You guys ready?" Kai asked, glancing over at Aiden and Karmen.
Indi raised her eyebrows in surprise when she saw Aiden frowning. Before she could ask what was wrong, he told Karmen. "You look really amazing."
"And?" Karmen asked, sounding just as confused at Aiden's grumpy tone as Indi was.
"Too amazing." Aiden said. Then he added, "I can't take you to the dance looking like that. Guys are going to stare at you. I'm gonna end up getting into a fight." He shook his head and shrugged like there was no other option, but for her to change.
"Oh my-" Karmen muttered, rolling her eyes. She grabbed Aiden's hand and stalked to the door. "You are ridiculous." She told him, her lips fighting a grin as she glanced at him over her shoulder.
On the way to the dance, Indi's phone rang. She glanced down at the number and saw that it was her dance teacher. She furrowed her brow in confusion and quickly answered it.
"Hey, Mrs. Clayton." She answered, confusion coloring her tone. It was rare that her teacher called her and rarer that it was with good news.
"Indi, good." She answered, her voice brimming with excitement. "I'm sorry to be calling so late. I just received a call from the Juilliard scouts and I wanted to call you right away."
Indi's heart-rate skyrocketed and butterflies erupted in her stomach. "What did they say?" She asked in a rush of nerves.
"Well, you better be on the lookout for a letter in the mail because you're in! They are offering you a full scholarship!"
"What!" Indi shrieked, causing Kai, Karmen, and Aiden to all jump. "That's amazing! Thank you so much for telling me, Mrs. Clayton. I have to call my mom."
"You do that. And congratulations, Indi."
"Thank you." Indi grinned. She hung up the phone and turned to her friends. "I got into Juilliard!" She squealed.
Karmen gasped and grabbed her hand excitedly. Aiden and Kai congratulated her. Kai was driving and just managed to keep the vehicle on the road in his attempt to celebrate with the rest of them.
Indi quickly told her mom, who screamed the news to the rest of the household, injuring Indi's eardrums in the process. She was so happy, she couldn't stop smiling.
As the group made it to the school where the dance was being held, they fought the waves of students who were all arriving at the same time and eventually made it into the building.
There was a fast song playing and Kai immediately pulled Indi onto the dance floor, spinning her into his arms. Karmen and Aiden wandered to the food table to get some snacks. After dancing with Kai for a while, Indi left him at a table and stole Karmen from Aiden, who went to mope with his brother.
"How's it going with Aiden?" Indi asked Karmen eagerly as they danced to their song.
Karmen made a face and her tanned skin reddened with a blush.
Indi laughed. "What's that face mean?"
"I think I like him." Karmen admitted.
Indi laughed again at her friend's disappointment. "That's good, Karmen!"
"Yeah, it's good." Karmen said, with a reluctant grin. "But you have to promise to keep me from letting him distract me!"
"I promise to keep you accountable." Indi said, doing a little happy dance.
Karmen glanced over at the table where the brothers were sitting. "He is cute though, isn't he?" She sighed.
Indi looked over and her gaze connected with Kai's. "Quite the distraction." She agreed, nodding.
