I hide on the roof and around other parts of the school until the bell rings. I rush out of the school along with all the other students ready to get home and head straight towards the parking lot.
"(Y/N)!"
I stop in my tracks and turn to whoever called me. Mini was jumping up and down waving at me. In an effort to hide myself, I put my hood up and speed walk onto the opposite direction. I look back to see them being swept away by the crowd.
I finally reach the student parking lot and follow Evan to his car. We get in.
"Where to m'lady?"
"The park. And step on it!"
I look out the window at my friends. I looked at every one of their faces. Betrayal overtoon every one of them. Except Tyler. He gave me a small nod.
I nodded back.
Evan went as fast as he could, which wasn't fast until we got out of the school parking lot.
Not long after we left, my phone began to go haywire. I never answered it. I didn't have the courage to face any of them.
Finally, we reached the park. It looked peaceful as far as I could tell.
Evan and I hopped out of the car just in time to spot Tyler's car pull up with Tyler and Mini inside.
They got out and rushed up to us.
I felt the anger bubble up inside me. "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TWO DOING HERE," I yelled.
"We're here to help," Mimi exclaimed, heroically.
"BULL! LEAVE!" I was now screaming.
I was already worried about Jonathan, I didn't need to be worried about them as well.
As soon as the words left my mouth, distant yelling met my ear. Everyone else must have heard it because next thing I know everyone is rushing to where the fighting is coming from.
Its stops as soon as we reach it.
My heart leapt into my throat, and not in a good way.
We froze.
Beth had her gun pointing at Jonathan. "You know what," she said, her crazy voice back, "I don't even care anymore." She starts to squeeze the trigger.
"NO," we all scream.
She stops and looks at us. "Great," she says,"now I gotta choose who to kill."
We freeze again.
"Who has wronged me the most." She paused. "Evan and Del here have both been assholes to me, but I think you, (Y/n)," she turns the gun to me,"pushed my buttons a little too hard." She squeezes the trigger again.
I shut my eyes, there was no point in trying to run.
She had me.
I flinch when the gun goes off.
No pain?
Someone saved me?
I open my eyes.
No.
Someone took the bullet for me.
I rush forward to catch Del.
Evan and Tyler had pinned down Beth, the gun thrown carelessly to the side.
Mini was on the phone, a look of panic and terror on his face.
But none of that mattered to me. All that mattered was him. The only thing that mattered was bleeding out in my arms.
And I couldn't do anything about it. I press my shirt sleeve against the gaping hole between his ribs, just to try and get the blood to ease up.
Just a bit. Please.
I took off his mask. "Hey, Jonny," I croaked.
He looked at me with tired eyes.
"Can I get a waffle? Can I please get a waffle," I managed to choke out.
He smiled weakly at me before reaching into his pocket and pulling out a crumpled up piece of paper.
He took my hand and put it in my palm. I looked at it and then at him. He smiled one last time before I was pulled away.
A group of people gathered around him before putting him on a stretcher.
I looked up at the person who pulled me away. He set me down and wrapped his arms around my shoulders. I looked over my shoulder at the expression Evan wore. I couldn't make out his expression. All I knew was that it didn't suit him. I didn't like it.
Everything grew quiet as everyone left. Except Evan. He held me, not moving. We sat there long after everyone left.
I looked at the sunset.
God it was perfect. I wish Del could have seen it. He would have loved it.
I felt my heart shatter into a million pieces. I took in a deep breath and started sobbing.
Evan started sobbing with me. This whole time he held a brave face.
I suppose everyone has their breaking point.
And Jonathan was ours.
