Grace debuted as an NCT member but her story doesn't start there.
2012

Grace had been a YG trainee of two years before becoming an SM trainee. Grace found it very difficult to break out of her habits which she had as a trainee in YG. She was even in the possible lineup for Pinkpunk which later became Blackpink. 2012 was a big change since Grace left YG and auditioned for SM after a month of her departure.
2013

Grace joined SM Entertainment at the beginning of the year. Towards the end of the year, Grace was added to the SM Rookies page. Fans started to speculate that Grace was going to be in the lineup for SM's new girl group. Fans hush over her visuals. SM later posted a dance cover of hers which becomes popular.
2014

Grace was in the lineup for Red Velvet but she was removed when the group was pushed forward for debut. Fans speculated that Grace was going to leave the company. During this time she is told that she would debut in the near future but was kept in the dark mostly.
