It was just another night in Elcon City. Everyone was sound asleep, well, except for a few dozen guards working. They wore black to blend in with the dark surroundings. It seemed that it was almost midnight. There were no stars in the sky that night. And the moon decided to hide behind the clouds, only peeking itself a little.
A man stood against a tree. He clutched his gun in his hand. A night vision glasses rested upon his eyes, and his eyes searched for someone,a particular target to exterminate. He has been standing there for almost five hours. But this is his job. He has to do what they tell him to do to keep it. He doesn't have to do it good, he just have to do it. And they pay him for it. He had nothing to lose. In fact, he'll gain so much more if he succeeds.
The man felt himself starting to grow weary and tired. His eyes were starting to get heavier and heavier by the second. That's when he saw it; a movement. He saw it from the corner of his eyes. He didn't really know if it was his target or if it was just a wild animal. So he started to move slowly, careful not to make a single sound. He tried to peek over from the tree to get a closer look.
And he was in luck, there he saw a girl. He couldn't really see her because of the little light, but it was enough for him to see that she suited his target's description; shoulder length dark brown hair, running shoes, and worn out jacket.
He thought that this was it; this was the time where he finally had the chance to prove to them that he deserved a promotion. Yes, that's what this is all about to him, getting a promotion. Killing a girl is a risk worth taking if it means that he will be able to feed his family, pay his debts, and live a better life. The thought of the girl might be an innocent never crossed his mind. He was too caught up in his own egoistic need. He was so tired of being told that he wasn't good enough and tonight he will change it.
The man took his gun; a blue writing that said "Sanctuary for Children and Restoration System" was on its side, the shortened version; "S.C.A.R.S" was written on his sleeve. He pointed his gun from the tree at the girl. He tried to aim for her heart. Kill her. He thought. Kill her and that's it. You finally earn it, the life you've always wanted. His aim was finally locked on her heart. He has no idea why S.C.A.R.S ordered him and the rest of the guards to kill her. He just knew that if he pull the trigger, he'll be recognized, people would know him. S.C.A.R.S would know him.
He was so busy thinking he forgot to actually pull the trigger. He woke from his thoughts when the girl rose up to leave from where she was sitting. He was panicking. He didn't have the time to aim her heart again. He held the gun so tight his hand sweat and his grip became slippery.
His mind was clouded. But he knew that if he tried to pull the trigger, he would still hit her, not enough to completely immobilize her. Maybe just slow her down. The girl started to turn around and leave, but he already did it, and he heard the sound of the bullet as it made its way into her flesh.
