Percy POV

The next morning, I dragged myself out of bed and was halfway through my shower before I remembered Quidditch tryouts. Immediately after my shower, I threw on a green v-neck, jeans, and put on my robes with the red and gold Gryffindor tie. Ugh, so not my colors. kind of envied Slytherin, because they got a green that was pretty close to the sea. I combed my hair and walked to our hangout room to meet Annabeth. I quickly checked the time on my watch. 8:07.

We had all decided to meet at 8:15 to go to breakfast, which ended at 9. Then we would head back up here to grab our brooms for tryouts at 9:30.

I was so nervous for tryouts, which was unusual for me. It was probably because I was actually good at the sport. Don't get me wrong, I'm good at other sports. Just not amazing (unless you count kayaking or swimming).

I opened the door to find Jason and Leo concentrating madly, hands moving at lightning speed as they stared at the video game on the screen across from where they're sitting.

The machine emitted a beeping sound, and Jason jumped up happily.

"Yes!" He yells, still floating a couple inches off the ground,

"No!" Leo falls to his knees on the ground and was dramatically fake-sobbing, "Curse you Mario! Why?"

"Get up, Leo." I pull him up. "Aren't you excited for tryouts?"

His eyes lit up and he says, "Yeah, man! Gonna finally put all this ADHD energy to good use. Plus, if I'm a Beater, I get to whack stuff with a giant club! No consequences!"

"Now you sound like Coach Hedge!" I laugh.

"Oh, man. That old satyr would love this sport!" Leo replies.

"Yeah, except in his version, we wouldn't score. We'd just ride around and whack each other." I tell him.

"Hmmmm. Remind me not to play Quidditch with Coach Hedge. Ever." Annabeth announces, walking into the room.

///

As soon as we walked into the corridor, the students walking down to breakfast all stopped walking and talking for a moment as they caught sight of us. Then, as we walked down the stairs, they all started talking again, this time in much quieter voices. I heard a few snatches of conversation.

"-did you see-?" one girl hissed at her friend, looking at Annabeth.

"-holding her hand?" her friend replied, staring right at me.

"-dating?" another girl asked.

"I squeezed Annabeth's hand which I had been holding.

"Why do all those girls keep staring at me and giggling? Do I have something on my face?" I start to wipe the whatever-it-is but Annabeth grabs my arm and stops me.

"You look fine, Seaweed Brain. Better than fine. That's why they keep looking at you." she replies.

"What does that mean?" I ask, even more confused.

Annabeth just laughs, "Figure it out, Percy."

We walk into the Great Hall, and I suddenly panic remembering that I'll be sitting alone while all of my friends are at different tables. Just like Camp all over again.
