holy hephaestus guys it's been almost a month im so sorry

I sat on my bed, flipping the Minotaur's token over and over again my my palm. After the tournament had ended, Crimonius had handed it to me, and told me that it was my clue for the next challenge. I ran my fingers over the smooth surface once more. I hadn't told anyone about it yet, and it had been almost a week since the last challenge. The next morning was the next challenge, and even though I've had the entire day off of classes to prepare, I had done nothing but sit in my bedroom, underwater function on. I spent yesterday hanging out with the giant squid, who had taken a liking to Leo and I. He told me to watch the token at sunset, so there I was. The only issue was that I couldn't see the sunrise.

I blew out some bubbles, then turned my room back to land. I willed a window to open up in the wall, something that Annabeth had figured out. Magical architecture has become her new favorite thing, and she declared to the wizards that it was what she was going into, since we were all asked to declare our careers.

Leo told them he was going to be an inventor, Piper said she wanted to make wands (due to her new obsession with magic), Jason said that he was going to work as a wizard weatherman as a little joke, and Hazel told them that she was going to work on recovering famous lost treasures and jewelry. Nico said that he was going to work as a writer, which shocked me when he actually started writing stories, which were admittedly awesome. Frank claimed magical animal control, Reyna decided on teaching potions, her specialty, and Thalia told everyone that she was going to work with magical plants, specializing in trees. I desperately wanted to say underwater creatures of the magical variety, but I knew what I would choose if I were actually a wizard.

"I'm going to be an Auror." I told the Gryffindor table one morning at breakfast, to no one's shock. Everyone sent me smiles and applauded my bravey, exept for Harry, who shouted that he was going to become one, too.

"Harry, I thought you wanted to play Quid-" Ginny had started but he hushed her as I glared at him. No one as awesome as Ginny Weasley should be silenced.

I asked her what she wanted to do, and she, Ron, and Hermione had all claimed to want to be Aurors.

I glanced outside the window, then held up the token just as the last of the sun's rays slipped through the window. The final one hit the circular piece of metal, which flared with a bright light, and when it faded, the token had changed. The metal had unfurled so that the disc was now hollow, but ten ray-shaped protuberances had been uncovered, and as I examined them, I realized that each contained a line to the riddle that would tell me what I was going to face the next morning.

"The four elements you must face

And beat your competitors in a race.

You must dodge the spirits of the wind's breath

or succumb to a fate akin to death.

Walk through the tongues hot as the sun

If you don't, your time is surely done.

You must survive as the earth shakes

or grim consequences the alternative makes.

Finally, you must survive the tide

as you are swept along for a final ride."

"Wow. Death and threats and doom, oh my." I sighed, flopping back onto my bed and thinking through the clue. The next challenge was some sort of race where we had to beat out the other competitors while battling the four elements. If I remembered correctly, they were fire, water, wind, and earth.

I silently tried to come up with strategies for each. Water was no problem for me, and I think that earth means earthquakes. Though it reminds me of Gaea, I'm not the son of the Earthshaker for nothing. As for air, I'm thinking of calling in an old friend for a favor. Fire was a hard one, even if I had extra immunity to it since I had the sea in my blood. If I were Leo, this would be no problem. Even if I had Reyna brew a fire-proof potion, it would do nothing much if I actually had to walk through the stuff.
