Chapter 34: Nova

Nova stared around the room. She, for the first time in years had been separated from her twin. He was in Gryffindor, it suited him. He was always putting others before him and being the one to stand up to people. On the other hand Nova was quiet, reserved and always caring towards her friends, but if anyone did something to hurt her friends she exploded. She was the overprotective 'Mum friend' in her old friendship group, then she and Keith had gotten their letters and their Father had explained that their Mum was a witch that had sacraficed herself in the fight against he who must not be named, whoever that was.

"Hey, new first years!" A cheerful voice said. Nova and the other first years glanced down in the direction of the speaker. There stood a slightly-chubby girl with golden hair and freckles. "I'm one of your Prefects, now you best make friends because you're going to need it" she smiled "the names Honey and if you are or feel as though you are LGBT+ then you can come and join the club. We meet every Saturday. You can come to me if unsure or you can look over at the noticeboard over there to see times or other clubs available"
Nova decided it would be best if she went later as there was a massive crowd forming at the noticeboard already. She ventured up to her dorm.
"Hey roomie!" A voice said, it was a small boy with chestnut hair tied up into a ponytail and hazel eyes.
"I room with a guy?" Nova said. The boy looked confused and suddenly a look of realisation crossed his face. "Ohh, I'm so sorry I forgot to take my potion today" he said rubbing the back of his head, he fished around in his pocket and took out a potion of liquid that kept changing from blue to pink. He took a big gulp and to Nova's amazement he started to change and suddenly he was a she. "The name's Simone" she said "I would've told you about what o really looked like later but I guess my forgetfulness outed me"
"It's fine Simone. You're beautiful and I'll make sure to remind you to take your potion" she smiled.
"Thanks. I am quite forgetful" Simone smiled "Hey maybe you could accompany me to the LGBT+ meeting"
"That'll be great, I don't really know what I am.." Nova trailer off.
"It's ok. I didn't really know at first either" Simone said.
-time skip-
Nova stared nervously around the room. Simone squeezed her hand reassuringly.
"Okay everyone settles down. There's a lot more members than last year so there will be a sheet of paper going around so we can take given and preferred names, genders and sexualities" an amplified voice echoed across the room. Nova looked in the direction of the speaker and saw a girl with golden hair tied up in pigtails along with a slightly taller girl with a mess of frizzy brown hair. "I'm Stacie and one of the original members, this is my girlfriend Hermione and if you see some older looking people they are the original members of this club. I hope this year will be an awesome experience. Now mingle!" Stacie gave a mischievous grin, took Hermione's hand and walked down the steps of the stage.
Suddenly a piece of paper nudged Nova, she looked down and a quill appeared in her hand. She looked at all the names, Stacie Grey, Gay was at the top. Nova put the quill to the page and wrote Nova Smith, unknown. The quill disappeared and the paper moved on. Sometime during that Simone had wandered off and disappeared into the crowd.
"Hey! You must be new" a voice said "the names Pansy" a girl held out her hand.
"I'm Nova" Nova said shyly shaking Pansy's hand.
"So what's your sexuality and pronouns?" She asked.
"I really don't know"
"Oh" Pansy said "I'm bi and She/her. I'm sure you'll figure it out eventually, but I like to say that everyone is Pansexual until proven otherwise"
"Ok, I'll probably identify as pan then" Nova said, unsure.
"Cool, well I gotta go, see you around" 
"Bye" and just like that Nova was alone again.
