Chapter 9 - Quitting

- Tuesday, February 14th, 2006, Clear, 6 am.

The sun was barely up when Zim was packing a small bag with food. He had messaged Dib to come to his house today. They were skipping school. Zim's heart was still rattling from yesterday. The only reason he got sleep was because his body exhausted itself to such a point.

He already heard the doorbell and headed up to the door. He opened the door and just walked out with Dib without a word. Dib didn't plan to give a word back. He just grabbed his hand, to which Zim grabbed back. The streets were white from the overnight snowfall, and only a few cars were out driving right now.

"So where are we going?" Dib asked.

"I don't know..." Zim said, "I just feel like getting lost right now..." Zim wiped his eyes with his free hand. Dib nodded at the desire.

"How did I not notice this before?..." Zim asked himself aloud.

"Dedication does that sometimes..." Dib replied, "So does this mean you won't destroy the Earth?...."

Zim looked away, unsure of how to answer,"I....I don't want to answer that right now...."

"Sorry..." Dib said. They went back into silence. Zim consistently felt tingles in his face. He slightly smiled and it was awkward looking. It got the attention of some people walking past them. Zim looked over toward Dib, who had a normal tired face on. He fixed his look shortly afterward. Zim then looked up ahead.

".....Dib?"

Dib looked over to him and gave a soft look,"Yes, Zim?..."

"Dog."

Dib looked at him confused until he stepped on a Chihuahua's paw. The lady walking it glared at Dib, which made Zim laugh a little. Dib wanted to be mad, but it did lighten the mood for them. It had a consequence though. It just made their hearts flutter more. Eventually, they reached a woodland area and aimlessly walked straight through it for a while.

9 am.

After three hours of walking and breaks, they couldn't really recognize where they were anymore. They were in a completely different city at this point. Dib looked around dumbfounded by his surroundings. He could tell this odd place was a lot cleaner than their old city. The place smelled of a variety of foods rather than just hot dogs and dirt.

He was confused with how the people looked. Most people didn't look awfully offensive to the eyes. It was a bit unsettling.

"Where are we?..." Dib asked.

"Oh right, I almost forgot about this place..." Zim said, "It's some weird city I came across last month with Gir."

Gir was flailing his arms happily and ran off in a specific direction.

"We bought a few things here. Snacks is one of them."

Dib looked over at him and gave a little smiled,"So is this your Valentine's Day gift?" Dib asked.

"More like a fortunate accident," Zim responded, "But it can be a good spot for our date this year..." They joined hands again and followed where Gir went. As soon as they left, a bus pulled up. A black-hooded little girl with purple hair stepped off the bus. Gaz had placed a tracker in Gir in the middle of the night. She looked around and saw them up ahead. She followed the group down the street.

Gir was near the window of a corner store that sold toys, comics and candy. He wanted more of those solar powered dancing toys, which Zim had gotten him a few of during their last visit. Gir started banging on the glass.
