Tim calmly narrated the entire encounter to Chituru. He listened intently without interrupting.
'...then I wake up and see you and Chioma staring at me.'
Chituru was silent for a while before he spoke.
'She said her name is Alletare'.
Tim nodded.
'Hmm...'
Tim could see the gears working in Chituru's head as he tried to process everything he told him.
Chituru and Tim have been friends as far back as primary five. One of the awesome things about Chituru is his natural affinity for languages coupled with his analytical abilities. He had first noticed this affinity while in Seminary School. Latin quickly became his favorite subject or the only subject he excelled at. It didn't come as a shock when he dropped out of Seminary School to learn languages properly. Right now he can boast of being fluent in over 10 different languages.
'Earth to Tim... are you still here or has Alletare carried your brain this time?'
'Not funny. I was... reminiscing'.
Chituru didn't ask what about and just moved on.
'I believe you'.
'What?'
'I believe you. Everything'.
Tim was sceptical.
'If memory serves me well, and it does, you and Chioma mocked me to sleep the last time I mentioned her to you both. What changed?'
'Well, you didn't know her name. Now you do and it has caught my interest'.
'Why?'
'Latin'.
'Huh?'
'Her name is Latin. And I know you have Zero affinity for languages, zero love for books, no offence but you can't even be used as a measurement for imagination since you have none'.
'No offense my foot!'
'Also the fact you didn't even know is further proof. So I thought, it's either my dear friend has over ten different screws loose and I should be rushing you to the nearest psychiatrist or you're telling the truth. I choose to believe the latter...unless proven otherwise'.
Tim scratched his head.
'So what does her name mean? And what does it have to do with anything?'
'Good question. It's translated to mean 'Allure' also I'm curious'.
'So what do you think I should do about her?'
'Do you really need to ask? Follow her! She obviously wants you for something. Find out what that something is'.
It was said so matter of factly that Tim almost felt defeated.
'You want me to go along with this just because you're curious?'
'Exactly!'
Tim groaned.
'I'll do it. Not because you said so but because I'm curious as well.'
Chituru was already smiling.
'...my condition is that you'll have to be with me'.
'It's a plan'.
