"Are you fucking kidding me?! Why would you hide something like this?" Her voice shaking from her anger and confusion.

"You don't understand," he desperately pleads.

"You're right, I don't, so why don't you explain it to me and I'll see where I want to go from here," her heels click across the floor as she slowly approaches him.

"I don't know if you want the explanation," with every step forward she takes, he takes one back causing him to knock into the desk.

"No, I don't want an explanation! I need an explanation! Do you hear the difference? Take a seat and tell me what’s going on now," she demands, gesturing toward the chair next to them.

He quietly obeys and turns the seat so he could face her instead of the desk. He let out a long deep breath to help him gather his words. "Okay then, first you should know the most important thing,” he pauses, clenching his fist. “It's not me."

"What?"

"I'm just a decoy while they're out doing the real work. I just manage here while they manage out there. They call the shots, not me."

"But-"

"Like I said, decoy."

"So who is it then?"

"If you don't know then I'm doing my job perfectly," he leans back into the seat, confidently.

The office door suddenly swings open, he springs out of the chair, and attempts to hide the woman with his body.

"Why the hell are all the lights on? I thought I told you to- is that V behind you? What is she doing here?" They asked, infuriated.

"I-uh-I-" V stutters as she steps out from behind the man.

"She was just leaving," he quickly interrupts, grabbing her hand.

"Y-yes, I was. Goodbye," she squeals as he pulls her out of the office.

V’s eyes never look away from them as she watches them stand in the middle of the office balling and un-balling their fist with wandering eyes.

Once in the dimly lit hallway and near the staircase, he stops pulling her and quickly turns to hold her tightly against his own body as he whispers into her ear, "You don't say a word about this to anyone or it's over for you and I. If they approach you about what just happened, say that we were having a conversation and Jennifer let us in before she went on lunch. Deny knowing anything."

A lump forms in her throat as he releases her and walks back into the office, all she could do was watch. Her whole body froze as she watched the doors to the office close behind him.

The hallway was completely silent with no one else in sight yet the atmosphere became heavy. V couldn’t grasp the sense of leaving or even moving an inch with this feeling pressing down on her. She attempts to take a step forward when suddenly, she hears a series of yells and slams. She flinches and takes a small step back with every bang and slam she hears.

She swallows roughly as she hears the elevator chime and feels a presence come from behind her.

"V? What are you doing here?" The presence asks her.

V slowly turned around to see a tall blond woman wearing a confused look on her face as she stared down at her. The woman then looks up toward the office, noticing the light was on, and pushes V aside as she rushes toward the office. She carefully cracks open the door causing every yell, grunt, and crash to pour out and into the once silent hallway.

The woman watches in pure shock as the light that touches her face becomes tainted by the passing shadows. She quickly stands straight up, turning to V, "You need to leave."

The office door slams shut, the only sound to be heard was a loud groan followed by coughing. The two women could see a wide shadow from under the door until it slowly becomes narrow and then disappears.

"Now!" The woman screams.

"D-Did someone just get-"

"V, I said now!"

Without a second thought, V does as she told, bursting through the staircase door and rushing down the stairs.

It's always calm before the storm, right? Let's start there.
