Chapter 20

I hold my breath.
The world seems to have stopped as it slowly comes foreword.
It acts as if it's already won. We're just its helpless, delicious, prey.
D-4 is frozen, looking in its eyes.
Slowly I slide foreword, not sure of what I'm doing exactly.
It looks at me suspiciously.
I stand slowly, braced for it's attack.
It just looks at me curiously. It seems that no one has challenged its authority for a while.
"Save yourself D-4. I'll run so it chases me and you find one of the others." I whisper.
He looks at me, scared.
"No.."
"Just do it."
It walks foreword a step.
Any closer and I can't run.
So I sprint to the right. As I expected, it gives chase. Just until the morning. Chase until morning.
Avoid the others.
I run down streets and streets and turn into the lobby of what looks like an old library.
At first I take it in. It's huge yet it has a destroyed feeling to it. A chandelier is smashed in the centre of the lobby and parts of the roof has gone.
I turn and it's not there. Catching up. Playing around, enjoying itself before it eats me. But, no, It's slow. It walks in to the building, crawling as it does.
The evil it gets closer and closer and I have no where to run.
If I attack they'll all come.
And I can't run.
I'll die.
Unless I do something.
I look for routes out of the library.
I can go around it.
I look up.
Or I could go up.
I get to a wall and look for a place to put my hands.
Every second it gets closer to me and my escape is becoming less and less real.
Then I find it, I place my foot in a small crack in the wall and hoist myself up with it.
And the it speeds up.
I desperately climb up further and further. It's scratching its paws on the wall.
And it climbs.
IT CLIMBS.
I go faster and faster up the wall, the bricks are cutting into my hands and are drawing blood.
Sweat is trickling down my forehead and it's getting ting user and closer.
Just a little while and I'm at a window.
And it reaches my heels.
It paws at my foot and I lose my balance.
And I fall.
