Oh God. I just had possibly the worst experience of my life.

So it all began when one of my best friends (what to call them? Hmmm... Coco because they always make brownies and also they wear really nice coconut body spray lol) invited me to help serve food at our local ceilidh (pronounce caylee. A ceilidh is a barn dance).

It started off really fun, we all danced together in a circle and held hands and laughed and just generally had fun.

Then, to my absolute horror, the leader (someone who calls out what to do in the dance) cried:
"Ladies take 8 steps into the middle."

Ladies.

The man next to me tapped me on the back and said "go on, that's your cue!" I ignored him.

Now this dance being one where we frequently switch partners, I had to mumble "not a lady" at least 10 times. I felt so trapped.

Everyone was staring at me now. I could feel their eyes drilling into me and whispers echoed in my ears.

"Go into the middle, you're a lady"
"Go on love, you're a lady"
"Don't be afraid to join the other ladies"
"Just pretend to be a lady for now"

I felt sick and just wanted to be free from this. I wanted to run.

Everyone just kept insisting that they knew my gender better than me. I was about to give up and just be a lady when the man next to me tells me what I have been hearing for the entire night.
"Go with the other ladies"

That was the last straw. I wanted everyone to know. Everyone had to know.

"FOR GOD'S SAKE I'M NOT A LADY!!!!!!"

How fun.

Update (a bit I forgot):

Everyone was just staring (or glaring) at me until one man speaks up and goes "you can be a man if you want" and I just go "NO"

ALSO

I just re-read this chapter and like... Jeez I was so poetic lol now I'm just laughing at last night 😂
