So I just came out as non binary to my parents.

Wow.

I don't even know if I was ready, but... well... read on to find out their reactions!!

So it's my mums birthday today, and yesterday I made her a birthday card.

Do you ever just like go into autopilot and do stuff you genuinely didn't mean to...?

Well, I wrote
'I am non binary. That means I am male, female and no gender at the SAME TIME (I know I'm skilled)' I can try and get a picture at some point but that's more or less what it said. I told them my preferred pronouns and name in the letter and then signed it off. 30 seconds later I was just like "damn."

Anyways.

It led to a very unpeaceful (is that a word?) night. I woke up today and was like "nononono pleasepleasepleaseplease say it was all a dream"

It wasn't.

I went downstairs and we opened presents and stuff (the usual) and my dad was like "hey, where's your card?" I was like "oopsileftitupstairsbyaccidentlolsorrybrb" and I went upstairs to get it.

My mum opened it and was reading it aloud
"I hope you don't mind me using this card to tell you something I have been meaning to tell you for a while. I am- oh!"

She looked at me and handed my card to my dad.

And then.

She hugged me. She hugged me and said "that's ok we love you all the same"

Later, when I was in my room being an antisocial human, my dad came upstairs (I was watching non binary tiktoks lol) and goes
"We didn't have children so we could raise princesses and princes. We had children so we could have a loving family" and I just started crying with happiness.

Moral of the story: unless you have a real reason for it, never be afraid to come out to your parents. And if your parents would rather have children just so they can raise them THE EXACT WAY THEY WANT instead of so they can love and care for them, that's hella dumb.
