A muscle in his jaw tensed. He noticed how thin she was and how tired she looked. Her rejection of him didn't sit well. It created a heavy and bitter feeling in his stomach.

"Sara! Please, come with me." Wes never pleaded with anyone in his life. Growing up with his brothers you had to be tough.

"I have booked a room in the hotel. Let me take you there. You need to see a doctor. You are pregnant", he tried to convince her once again.

"I'm fine Wes..... I know I'm pregnant......My baby deserves to be loved....." Her speech faded. Wes felt something was wrong, and stepped closer to her. Not a moment too soon. Sara swayed and collapsed in his arms. He managed to catch her, but his heart stopped.

Like a feather in his arms Sara rested against him limp and white. Nothing made Wes as scared in all of his life. This was his wife, and his child. His hands shook and he felt fear deep down to his core. He whispered to her even though she couldn't hear him," I love you, and I will love our baby."

Beth opened the door, and when she saw Sara gasped, "S A R A". She looked at the tall, good looking man with Sara in his arms and quickly added , "Bring her in."

He walked after Beth in the tiny room at the end of the corridor. Gently he placed Sara on the single bed by the wall. The room was tidy, and the only other furniture in the room were small dresser and a single chair.

Beth brought the pitcher with water and damp cloth. She wiped Sara's face and put the cloth on her forehead.

Then she turns her attention to Wes, " Who are you?" She saw by solemn expression on his face that he was more than a mere stranger.

"I'm her husband." Wes answered, but his eyes haven't left Sara.

Beth was clearly surprised, "She never mentioned you."

The space around him got tight, and he swallowed hard. It seemed Sara never spoke of him to anyone. As if she tried to erase him out of her life.

"Regardless, it doesn't change the fact that I'm her husband." There was trace of bitterness reflected in his voice. "I'll bring a doctor! She needs a doctor!"

Just then Sara opened her eyes and looked at him. She closed them again and groaned! " I don't need a doctor. Go away. I don't want you here." With that she turned her head towards the wall.

Deep inside of her there was a turmoil. She tried so hard to forget him to ban his face out of her mind. To forget her love for him. Having him close to her almost physically hurt. She felt it in every fiber of her body. She ran so far to forget, to be away from him. Why is he here?

Sara moaned and Beth wiped her brow again, then she turned towards Wes.

"What you are saying may be the truth Mr...., but she is upset by your presence."

"Wes Jade", he introduced himself.

"Mr. Jade! That is why she probably collapsed. It may be a good idea to give her some time. If needed, we will send for a doctor."

Even if he would like to, he couldn't argue with her. He was too concerned for Sara.

He waited in the corridor for some time just to be sure she'll be fine.

When the door of the boarding house closed behind him Wes stood in front of it, and he never felt more helpless in his life as he did at that moment.

He looked up at the window where Sara's bedroom was , " Sara , my sweet Sara. Forgive me Sara." Nobody heard him but an empty street.

"What have I done?" Wes asked himself and put his face in his hands.
