7:00 AM
Diego's mother was setting the table.
She made her son bacon and eggs, his favorite. She was hoping this would finally make him speak to her again. She knew she would be late for work, but she thought that maybe Diego would appreciate that.
She was about to go wake Diego up, when she heard the door slamming shut.
Diego had left for school without speaking to her. He hadn't said a word to her in almost a week.
3:00 PM
Diego thought about going to the cemetery to see Vilu's grave. But despite how much he didn't feel like going home, he couldn't bring himself to face the stone that would confirm her death.
So he went home.
Several people invited him to hang out. Thomas had invited him over to his house on multiple occasions because he felt guilty about reading that story about the man and his dead wife in front of him. Even if it was an assignment for class.
Diego didn't really feel like being around people.
He walked into the kitchen and found the breakfast his mother had laid out, still there on the table. With flies in the eggs and tiny bugs flying around the glass of orange juice. He threw out the food and did the dishes then went to take a nap in his room.
6:00 PM
He was awake, but he couldn't move. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't will his arms to move the slightest bit. He felt a weight crushing his chest and a feeling of impending doom take a hold of him. At least, he could move his eyelids. He opened his eyes.
He was faced with a pair of female undergarments hugging the thin and delicate body of a girl with familiar fair skin. His eyes traveled upwards towards her naked chest, feeling a mixture of fear and arousal.
But then, her face.
Vilu's face was disfigured and torn. It was bloody and unnatural. The corners of her lips were cut so that her scars formed a demonic smile. An ugly, demonic smile with which she bent down to kiss Diego, the weight of her body on his chest still obstructing his breathing.
He did not want to kiss her. He loved her, he missed her, but he did not want to kiss a corpse bride.
He finally found the strength to scream.
So he screamed.
And he screamed.
And he screamed.
And Vilu disappeared.
And he could move again. And he sat up and took in the air like a starving person takes in food. And he couldn't help but think that his mother was supposed to run in his bedroom. She was supposed to be worried and panicked and she was supposed to ask him what was wrong. And she was then supposed to hug him and comfort him, and offer to stay with him so that he wouldn't be alone. He would've forgiven her right then and there.
But his bedroom door remained closed.
His mother was at work, and the only other person willing to give him any semblance of love was dead because some asshole decided that his alcoholism was more important than people's lives.
