10:00 AM

Light knocking could be heard on Diego's bedroom door. He shuffled around in his bed, wincing as the sunlight hit his eyes.

His mother pushed the door open and walked in.

"It wasn't very nice what you did yesterday, Diego." She spoke, sitting at the foot of his bed.

"Look who's talkin'." Replied Diego, getting out of bed.

"It's been a long time Diego, you should be over it by now." She remarked, crossing her arms.

"Oh really? Well it doesn't look like you're over his dick." He spat back, opening his closet.

"Diego! How dare you?!" she yelled in shock.

"How dare I? HOW DARE YOU! After everything we've been through how could you do this?!"

"It's my life Diego and I can do whatever I want with it."

"Yea and you seem to do everything but take care of your family." He said resentfully, picking out a shirt.

"I work very hard to put food on the table, to make sure you have a roof over your head." She cried.

"Oh really? And here I was thinking that you're just screwing your boss." He smiled sarcastically.

"DIEGO!"

"Well aren't you?" he asked. "Does the man you brought home last night know that? Doe Dan know that you're cheating on him with your boss, just like you cheated on dad with Dan?"

"Don't bring your father into this." She pleaded, her eyes swelling with tears.

"Why not? Do you still feel guilty?" he smiled cruelly.

His mother wiped the tears from her eyes and took a deep breath.

"I'm not having this conversation with you Diego. Get dressed. Me and Dan are going out for the day, and since Dan has his son for the weekend, he's going to be leaving him here with you while we're out. I expect you to be nice and civil with Marco."

"Oh wow, you two really do belong together. You're both awful parents."

"Whatever Diego, just do as I said."

12:00 PM

Diego left his room to find a boy, around his age, sitting silently on the couch in the living room.

"Hey" he said to the boy with the long fluffy hair.

"Hey." The boy replied quietly, looking down at his feet.

"I'm Diego." He said sitting down on the same couch.

"I'm Marco." He answered, hiding his hands in his sweater's sleeves.

"I'm sorry about your parents." Said Diego, referring to Marco's parents' divorce.

"I'm sorry about your girlfriend." Answered Marco.

"Oh, thanks. You know about that?"

"Yea, your mother told me."

"Figures." He scoffed.

"I hope they find the drunk driver."

"What?"

"The driver who hit her. I hope they find him, so they can put him in jail."

"I haven't even thought about the driver."

"You didn't know? There's video of the crash from a supermarket's security camera, but they couldn't identify who the drunk driver was. It was a hit and run. It was on the news."

"I guess I didn't check the news. I guess, I just don't want to believe she's gone."

"That's normal."

"Is it?"

"Denial is something a lot of people go through. For example, when my mom found out my dad was cheating on her, she acted as if everything was ok for weeks, before she finally snapped."

"I'm sorry about that."

"It's not your fault."

"You know you're pretty talkative for someone who looks shy."

"You're easy to talk to."

They both smiled and let an awkward silence set in.

"Have you had breakfast yet?" said Diego in a desperate attempt to break the silence.

"No not really."

"We could make some bacon and eggs." Suggested Diego, heading towards the kitchen.

"I love bacon and eggs." Smiled Marco, following him.
