(Six hours later...)
As my ship touched back down on Erastus, I couldn't help but slump in my seat. While today was refreshing, it was still tiring. It was also interesting to see if I could keep up with Alannah...I obviously failed...
I rose to my feet and stumbled into the cargo hold. Alannah fell into rank beside me, and we entered my house together.
"Did you receive any transmissions from me?" I heard Boreas shout from his work room. "I've spent the past four days working on improving our comms system, and I swear to fucking god I'm about to shoot Alex!"
"What? Why?" I demanded, going upstairs to find the door to Boreas' workroom wide open.
"Oh, I dunno? Maybe it's because the kid is driving me insane?" my friend retorted, sarcasm dripping from his voice. "He won't leave me alone!"
I laughed and watched as Alex sat on a crate beside Boreas' desk. The kid flashed me an innocent grin, and I couldn't help but chuckle to myself.
As usual, my friend's work room was a complete and total mess. Circuitry along with pieces of metal and other bits littered the central table, and several boxes were stacked up in the far left corner. A few posters were hung on the steel-colored walls, but most of them were hidden by all the junk my partner's amassed throughout the months.
"I see you ladies have been having fun in here without me," Alannah mused. I turned to regard her and felt my throat bob when she shot a flirty wink my way.
Boreas ran a hand through his shaggy hair before rising to his feet. "Fuck it, I'm hungry and tired. If it's okay with you, I'm going to make dinner."
"Hey, knock yourself out," I told him, taking my helmet off, "Food sounds good to me."
"Excellent. I bought something that resembles beef, so let's hope we don't get food poisoning!"
I scowled and left the room. Taking Alannah's hand in mine, we went downstairs and took a seat in the living room. A few moments later, Boreas and Alex joined us.
"I'll get started on supper," my partner stated, "I'm probably going to whip up something simple, so it won't take long."
And with that, he walked off. Alex sat down between me and Alannah, and I could tell the little asshole knew I didn't appreciate that.
"What?" he prompted me upon seeing the scowl on my face.
I sighed. "You know damn well what you did, kid."
Alex snickered. "Yeah, you right."
Alannah laughed. "Alright kiddo, stop antagonizing Cylus. He'll probably kick your ass during tomorrow's training session."
"Eh, he can try."
I glowered at the shithead, who in turn flashed me his brightest smirk. "Try me, bitch," his eyes seemed to say.
I ruffled his hair and kicked the little shit out of his seat. Almost immediately, Alannah slid toward me and laid her head onto my shoulder.
"Wow, how rude." Alex grumbled, blowing a few strands of hair out of his face. "I'm going to go bug Boreas..."
And with that, he walked off.
"That was kind of an asshole move, love."
"I don't hear you complaining."
"Oh, I'm not."
Twenty minutes passed before Boreas called for us to come into the dining room. Upon entering the simple eating area, my gaze settled on a dish of...Something.
