After my little meltdown, things returned to a semblance of normalcy. Alannah assured Boreas he'd get an explanation later, much to his chagrin. I don't blame him for being agitated, but I didn't want to explain what happened...Especially with Daniel sitting beside him.

His son doesn't need to hear the fucked up shit that's happened to me. I thought to myself. Danny deserves to keep his innocence while he's still young.

We hung out in the living room of Boreas' house until it came time for dinner. At that point, we migrated into the dining room and enjoyed a delicious trio of dishes whipped up by Janet. As you would've expected, Boreas brewed some tea for everyone to drink. His wife tried to protest his actions, but he assured her he wanted to do this. After all of the dishes were set out, we dug in.

I now see where Boreas got his skills from. I mused as I cut into the meat of some indigenous creature found on Solara. "Janet, what is this again?"

"I forgot what the creature's actual name is, but the locals call them Brush jumpers." she replied. "They're kind of like the deer and elk that can be found on other planets."

"Deer and elk? What are those?" Alex prompted her in the middle of stuffing his mouth full.

Janet laughed. "They're creatures that originated on the planet commonly referred to as Terra. While they've changed quite a bit since they were first taken from the planetside, they still resemble their ancestors."

"Ah."

Everyone chuckled and continued to eat.

Two hours after dinner, we unfortunately had to part ways with Boreas' family.

"I'm sorry, love." my best friend breathed, embracing his wife. "I promise I'll be back soon."

"Don't worry Boreas. all I ask is that you take care of yourself." she told him, shooting me a small smile. "And Cylus."

He chuckled. "Will do."

He then moved on to embracing his son. "I'll be back, bud. You hear me?"

"Okay dad..."

Boreas sighed. "I'm sorry Danny...I have to keep an eye on your uncle Mortie. The oaf doesn't know how to keep himself in one piece, so your old man has to make sure he doesn't do anything stupid."

A small grin appeared on Daniel's face. "Fair enough...Take care of my dad, Uncle Mortie."

I smiled and hugged him. "I promise you, your father will be in safe hands."

He nodded to himself. "Thank you."

After that, we boarded my ship and got ready to leave. After we took to the skies, I heard someone walk into the cockpit.

"If you don't wanna talk, I get it." Boreas began, his voice heavy with weariness. "I just want to make sure you're doing okay."

I sighed. "I'm better, Boreas. I'm sorry...I had a panic attack."

"Your father again?"

I nodded. "He wanted Alannah to know how...How I came to acquire my prosthetic."

Boreas cringed. "Damn...I thought that bastard faded away."

"I thought so too." I breathed. "And...There's one skeleton I haven't told you about yet."

"What is it?"

I...Told him. I've mentioned someone named Katherine before. Well, Katherine was the first person to steal my heart. We dated when I was in my early twenties, and I foolishly believed nothing bad was going to befall us. Well, I was wrong.
