Chapter 9: Sewer Spelunking

Develyn received a text from Delphine about a secret phrase he'll say to Esbern once he comes into contanct. "How in the hell did I give her my number? I have no interest in her what so ever," Develyn asked.

"Makes sense, you're 17, she's like thirty something," Asriel noted.

"Read it for me, I obviously have my hands full," Develyn commanded to Asriel.

"It says something about a secret phrase you shall say Esbern. Ask where he was on the 30th of Frostfall. That seems helpful," Asriel said reading the text.

"She saying it because she knows him well, he might know himself," Andy stated.

"Isn't Esbern in his seventies or something like that?" Asriel asked.

"Well, I hope he gets to help us out," Develyn stated.

The trio approached the town of La Junta and they would approach a public gathering. A strange Nord was walking around suspiciously, the trio took this as an opportunity to ask him.

"Uh, excuse me sir?" Develyn asked.

"What is it?" The Nord asked.

"We're looking for a man named Esbern, know where he is?" Develyn answered.

"I got business to take care of, you guys can help if you want," The Nord answered.

"We're not interested in petty theft, even when the dragons are roaming about burning everything in their path," Develyn stated.

"If you put it that way, I guess I can help you out. He paid us all a ransom for us not to expose his location until you asked about it till now. He lies in the Ratway Warren, local sewer system as you will. Once you've finished, we'll play my game, got it?" The Nord explained.

"Fair enough, thank you," Develyn stated as the trio walked off.

"Why do we have to go into the sewers to find a senior citizen in hiding?" Asriel asked.

"It's the only way they help us on the crisis the entire world is in. I've heard cities across the world are being burned down by the dragons, especially the densely populated ones," Develyn stated.

"I think Asriel doesn't like getting dirty," Andy said in a non-sexual manner.

"Ok, I'm not a germaphobe, but dude. There could be diseases that could kill us!" Asriel exclaimed.

"If you have a strong enough immune system it won't do anything, it'll just leave us with the common cold, which we do," Develyn noted. (A/N: The trio have the most strongest immune systems out of everyone else)

The trio soon entered the Ratway, the AMD were already there on their search for Esbern. The trio would have them plucked off however, they continued onward into a suspicious room that looked like a suspicious hideout for thieves.

"This looks weird, looks like they don't wanna do anything as well," Asriel stated.

"Well, we'll get pointed more in the right direction if we ask one of them, let's do it," Develyn stated. Eventually a person would ask a brawl, "How about you direct us before you wake up in hospital bed and blow your entire guilds location?" Develyn asked in a courteous tone trying to decline the brawl.

"Well I don't want that to happen, he still lies in the Warrens, it's just a straight cut through that door," The person stated accepting Develyn's request.

The trio walked into the Ratway Warrens, the AMD were also there too and the trio were wondering how they got there. They had to kill them of course, they eventually reached on the door that might contain him.

"Esbern, you in there?" Develyn asked.

"Go away, I know you're one of them!" Esbern yelled.

"Uhh hey, Delphine said to 'Remember the 30th of Frostfall,'" Asriel stated.

"She's alive? And I do remember, hold up this will be a second," Esbern started unlocking the door to his cell. "There we are come on in."

"This looks weird, you live in here?" Asriel asked.

"Yes. Delphine must've stayed determined herself, I should've told her that the world was coming to an end," Esbern explained.

"Do you really the world is gonna end?" Develyn asked.

"I'm afraid so, I've been hearing the news recently, the dragons have been attacking cities all across the world. Alduin has returned, and it's only up for the Dragonborn to stop him, if he isn't there, then Nirn will cease to exist," Esbern stated.

"You have a false sense of hope Esbern, I'm THE Dragonborn, I have the blood and mind to prove it to you," Develyn clarified.

"Are you really?" Esbern asked with his eyes lighting up, "Take me to Delphine, I have an idea that might help you out."

"Sure thing, are you gonna grab anything?" Develyn asked.

"Yeah, I have to grab a several things to make sure the AMD doesn't find them," Esbern answered.

"Right, and be quick. If you really think this is the end of the world and I'm the one who can stop it, were racing the against the clock," Develyn warned.

"Sure thing," Esbern stated as he grabbed some things. It wasn't long before Esbern had the stuff he needed and the trio were off back to Sleeping Giant Inn.
