the room was packed, which made lydia very, very uncomfortable.
at this point in the night, she had lost track of most of her friends. amala had left with jacob about half an hour back, and the last time she had seen kim and charli, they were drunk out of their minds and had since wandered off to god knows where. lennon had gone off to find them ten minutes prior and hadn't returned yet.
lydia found herself glued to normani's side for the majority of the night. there were few things she hated more than overcrowded spaces. being on stage and looking out into a massive crowd? no problem for the singer. but actually being in a massive crowd? no thank you. she knew normani didn't mind, though. her best friend knew all about her fear of crowded spaces.
normani was deep in conversation with megan thee stallion, an artist that lydia admired deeply. however, instead of being involved in the conversation, lydia found herself scanning the room. she knew exactly who she was looking for. she had spent most of her time zoning out and searching the sea of familiar faces for that one particular person, which normani was quick to catch on to.
out of the corner of her eye, she could see megan walk away, which saddened her considering she never got a chance to even say hi to her. but, mere moments later, she realized it was worth it.
there he was, standing about five meters away from her and talking to someone she didn't recognize. even from a distance, he was beautiful. she stared at him intently and admired him. whoever he was talking to must've said something funny, and she watched his already gorgeous smile get wider and his eyes light up. she was entranced by his every movement.
normani quickly followed lydia's gaze and saw who she was staring at, letting out a soft gasp in the process.
"he looks amazing," she mumbled, putting a hand on her best friend's shoulder. this snapped lydia out of her moment of staring as she turned to face her.
"should i...?" lydia trailed off, but normani understood completely. she quickly glanced back up towards his direction, and whatever she saw made her smile. she looked back at lydia and simply nodded, turning her around to face his direction yet again.
whoever he was talking to had left. this time, he was the one staring at her.
it was now or never, and lydia couldn't stand the idea of never.
she could feel normani's eyes on her as she began to cross the room towards him. as she approached, she could almost see his smile slowly getting bigger. or maybe it was just in her head.
the next thing she knew, she was standing right in front of him. he was even prettier up close. his smile was was warm and inviting. his glimmering dark eyes sparked something inside her, drawing her in. all of a sudden, the crowd of people around her that had previously caused her so much stress ceased to exist in her mind. it was just them.
"hi," she smiled at him sweetly, knowing that she was absolutely, positively, fucked.
