A groan was heard echoing through the small room. A shift came from the bed in the corner, soon a bed-head popped out. Her brown hair stuck out at all angles. She sighed, and flopped her head back onto her pillow. Suddenly she was kicked out of bed, and landed on the floor with a startled gasp. Turning she ripped the blankets from the bed, to reveal a German Shepard.
"Malone! Again?" She groaned, the Shepard opened his eyes and moved his head to nuzzle her cheek. "Don't think I forgive you," she tried to scold, but ended up giggling. Malone continued to nuzzle and lick her face, she continued to giggle.
Laying her head on top of her hands she sighed. Malone, whined and licked her hand.
"Another day, in that hell hole. Why can't I just stay at home with you?" Catching his eye she finally stood up. Malone followed closely behind. "What should I wear, Malone?" Both looked at her closet full of her clothes. Malone's only response was to rub his head against her leg, in askance of a pet.
"Your so much help." Smiling she scratched between his ears. Looking back up to her closet she decided to go with the classic jeans and a shirt. Grabbing a pair of black jeans and a light blue t-shirt she turned towards her bed.
Throwing the clothes on the bed in exchange for a towel, she made her way to the bathroom. Before she shut the door, she listened for any noise telling her that her mom was up. After a second or so, the sounds of clinking cups were heard. Smiling to herself she pictured her mother making coffee, and the ever present frown she possessed before she had her daily dose of caffeine. Shaking her head she continued her bathroom routine.
After she showered, she quickly slipped into her clothes. Taking a little more time on the skinny jeans, seeing how they didn't like the idea of fitting onto slightly wet legs. After the slight struggle, she made her way to the kitchen. When she neared the bottom she peered into the mirror, making sure her make-up was okay. Then she took a second to admire how her shirt matched her blue eyes, her abnormal blue eyes.
She never understood why her eyes were blue, after all she had her inherited buckskin coloured skin. Usually the status-quo were all shades of brown, not blue. Then again, none of her family ever had brown eyes. Strange, but true.
Quickly getting out of her thoughts, she finally made it to the kitchen. Where her mother sat at the island, sipping at her coffee. Frown out of site, and her newspaper in hand.
"Morning mum," she chirped. Walking to the back door, she let Malone out for his morning business.
"Morning," her mother muttered, not once taking her eyes from her newspaper.
"Tay up yet?" Her mother sighed at the mention of her brother, this made her inwardly smile.
"Jay, you know your brother. No, he's not. Probably will be late. Again. Like always." The brunette, know known as Jay, smiled when her mother rolled her eyes. Their names weren't actually Tay and Jay. Nope, just nicknames. Tay short for Taylor, and Jay short for Jaylynn.
"Hey! I'm not always late." Tay denied. It was funny seeing a six foot three eighteen year old pout, especially when his brown hair had bed head. No one would think that they were two years apart, not with the way he acts. "Morning baby Jay." Tay ruffled her hair and headed towards the bowls. Smiling Jay shoved him making him laugh.
"Morning, Tay." Jay said, and only seconds later was repeated by their mother.
"So, what's the reason for the meeting this time? Usually its just for the VISs only," Jay snickered at the abbreviation, Tay was doing the same too. Their mother smacked them both with her hand towel. It didn't do much to stop them.
"Jay, if you keep saying stuff like VIS they will catch on, and they will not be pleased. Just because your older brother just so happens to be the mate of the Beta's daughter, doesn't mean they will go easy on you," her mother scolds. Jay deflates a bit. A year ago their eldest brother Jamie was mated to the Beta's daughter. Everyday her family is sneered at by other human families for associating with the Wolves, well the families that are still opposed to the Werewolf governance.
"Please, as if Jamie would allow anyone to touch a hair on his baby Jay head. And Juniper would have their heads on pikes, that woman loves you Jay," Tay tells her, and she smiles a bit, because Juniper would do that. Despite their little spit matches when Jamie was first mated to her (mostly because she wasn't ready to give her brother to anyone, and mates are supposedly for life).
"Well, I am just saying, as your mother by the way, that I don't want you talking like that outside of this house. Do you understand?" Although she had started off just addressing Jay, she ended addressing the two of them. Both nodded in promise, even though tomorrow at school they would probably still use it.
"Now hurry and eat your breakfast, we have to be at the Pack House at 12, and it's already 10:30. It takes an hour to drive there. I have a son to see too, so let's get a move on," their mother ordered. Both kids groaned. The Pack Meetings were dreadful, because you had domineering Wolves, and the stubborn humans. Nothing productive ever came out of the meetings. They were just a hindrance on Jay's usually perfect Saturday. Plus, being around the Wolves, made her feel insignificant, made her feel like she would always be second best, and forever stuck in second
The sound of Malone's barking gets her into gear. Might as well get ready to face reality, and the to face the Wolves.

Now, surely you are confused. What is a Beta? What is VIS? Doesn't mate mean friend (if you are British or Australian)? Well, yes mate does mean friend, but it has another definition. Mate is a person who is the counterpart to Werewolves, and yes real Werewolves, this person isn't necessarily the Werewolves soul mate, more like just the most compatible. Now for VIS, this is Jay's abbreviation for Very Important Species because humans are the lesser species. After the World War W (the war of human vs. Werewolf) Werewolves came out as victors, and instead of enslaving humanity, they simply made them second class. After all, would you like the possible love of your life to die on the street? No. And finally, Beta. Beta is a ranking; it goes Alpha, Beta, and Omega. Of course there is only one Alpha (and his Alpha mate), then there are multiple divisions for Beta, and there are two kinds of Omega: Human and Werewolf. I am an Omega human, same with the rest of my family. My brother Jamie is mated to not just any Beta, he's mated to the right hand Beta's daughter: Juniper. He is ranked second after the Alpha and the Alpha's mate.
Jaylynn is one of the many humans under the care of the Walker Pack. Pack meetings are held once a month as a way of keeping the humans in the Pack up-to-date with the world. Humans are kept in a gated community, slightly separated from all the Werewolves. It's a way to remind humans that they are not exactly on par with Werewolves. Also, humans are to go to their own school, and only mated humans may join the Werewolf schools that are outside of the gated community. There is only one way to crossover though, and that is the Mate Runs that are held every year for anyone ages 16 and older.
Tay will be one his second year for the Runs, and Jay is going to participate for her first run this year, reluctantly.
