Staying at the manor might be the best decision I ever made. Forced upon me as it was, it's still way better than where I was before. Consistent meals, proper schedules, social interaction to fix my chart of life needs, there really aren't many negatives I could find. At least, until today anyway.

It started out fine. I was in the lab with Flug when Blackhat called us, rather me and forcibly teleported Flug to his office. For the past two weeks I'd seen Blackhat plenty, but I was always in the background of the situation. He usually interacted with Flug for the video demos and Dementia when she was seeking his attention. I just sat with 5.0.5, who'd taken a liking to hugging me frequently when he got scared. There was some client, Erania, who was having some issue with getting rid of a persistent hero. What the heroine lacked in strength she made up in intelligence, enough to outwit prior traps and schemes. This led to Erania reaching out to hire actual organization members rather than just buy one of the gadgets listed in the catalog. Dementia was beyond excited to go do something, and I think Flug needed the reprieve from the lab too. The strange part was when I got dragged along.

I was sitting in the flying hat next to Dementia, watching her scroll through her evil social media and liking every ounce of Blackhat related content when I finally spoke up.

"Hey Flug? Why exactly am I coming with? Aside from the obvious of Blackhat growling at us and saying you had to take me?" I was kind of anxious, given I was on my last dose of medication from Warren until he could get ahold of more in two days. I didn't know how this would go if I had to be involved.

He looked back and shrugged, leaning on his chair. "I don't really know. You do work for us though, and even 5.0.5 goes on these missions. We'll just try to keep you out of trouble."

Dementia chimed in quickly, grinning widely. "Don't worry about it y/n, I can take out any hero that gives us trouble. With or without one of Fluggy's dumb plans." This almost immediately dissolved into them arguing over what to do. I tuned it out though, scratching at my neck anxiously the entire way. All I could think of was what might happen if I didn't keep my composure.

Flug POV

Y/n was really unsettled. She looked like she was going to jump out of the aircraft if it got her away from this. I'd looked through what little files from the facility that had been kept in the system and I still had no idea what she was in there for aside from an unlabeled 'incident'. There weren't even records of what her powers were. There had to be something she had to make her such a threat, but they must've been too afraid to record it in a system. I'd seen her medication and that didn't even have a label, though I could tell from the ingredients it was, at least in part, pain killers. Everything about her was a mystery, and it was very fascinating and frustrating at the same time. I know exactly why Blackhat sent her, it was obvious to me really. He wanted to see if more could be coaxed out of her, since she seemed willing enough to be villainous with the rest of us. I just really hoped his gamble wouldn't get us in hot water with such an unknown variable.

Y/n POV

I was brought back into focus by dementia grabbing my arm and tugging me along while Flug explained his 'simple' 30 step plan. It took all of two steps for dementia to disappear and begin wrecking the shops and cars on the street.

"Dementia! How many times are you going to ignore my plans!?" Flug yelled, already looking fed up.

Dementia had some poor man pinned down under her foot as she hissed at the bystanders, a lamp post dented nearby. "I told you I don't need a silly plan! We just need to get that super nerd here."

Speaking of the devil, as the saying goes, the hero known as Kinetica appeared, running right into Dementia and throwing her across the street.

"Everyone Get away from here! I'll handle the villains!" She had the right plan at least, get rid of the potential casualties before they became a hinderance. She had the usual hero costume, bright thematic colors, a giant K done in red on her suit with each arm of the K going over one of her limbs. It was a little too much like a cheerleader gimmick to me, but I also never went to high school. What do I know about cheerleaders?

The whole scene was ridiculous, with Flug standing there awkwardly while Kinetica and Dementia began throwing punches and each other. I went into one of the abandoned food places and got a cup, getting myself a drink before returning outside and sitting down on the curb by Flug. Soon he was dragged into it, shooting at the hero in the attempt to stop her constant movements. She was unusually fast, and each attack she made grew stronger. I soon realized why. Kinetica, aka, kinetic energy. The longer she stayed in motion the faster she became. The faster she was the more power she gained. It didn't exactly match up, but I imagine she couldn't think of a more catchy name to equal 'the longer I stay in motion the better my attacks'. It was very interesting to watch for sure. That was until she noticed me.

Up until now I was just a regular semi adult sitting on a curb in a hoodie and discount jeans, my shoes beat to heck and back. However, after Dementia landed a solid kick and yelled in enthusiasm at me, Kinetica seemed to realize I was with them.

I wasn't worried about Dementia, she could handle her own, but Kinetica was only getting faster, and soon she had side stepped around Flug and flung him across the street into Dementia, temporarily removing them both before running at me. I get it, kind of. I looked like a probably cocky villain sitting there with my drink and not fighting. It's usually wise to get rid of the biggest threat, and sometimes arrogance came off that way. This however, was not me. I just didn't want to be involved.

"Wait, Wait, I'm not fighting!" I said quickly, getting up and back away. I didn't like how she was getting so close. I started scratching at my neck, feeling the faint trickle of blood as I made the spot worse.

"You're with them, therefore you're just as guilty. You will all be apprehended and tried for villainy. If you're lucky you'll be considered a victim of force. Will you testify against your friends?"

Friends. That was something I hadn't really thought about. I suppose they are my friends, Dementia at the absolute least. Could I really turn on them? The idea of being sent to another facility scared the life out of me, what little I had. I looked over at the pair, still tangled together and the hand on my neck paused, slowly hanging limp at my side.

"...no. I won't betray them." I knew it was the 'wrong answer', but I'd had enough moral arguments with Warren to know that what was wrong and what right wasn't the same as what is good and what is bad. I turned back to see Kinetica attempt to apprehend me, and everything went wrong. What I meant to do was step back, recoil, anything to get away. Instead though, I heard one crack, and then an almost crunching sound, watching as Kinetica flew into a wall across the road, sinking down with a blood splatter on the wall. My eyes were wide, and I didn't know what to do except sink down on the curb and just clutch my legs to my chest, nails dug in through my jeans.

I didn't mean to. I didn't want to. It wasn't my fault. She came at me and I was too afraid of being apprehended. I lost control. I saw the vague image of Flug approaching me slowly, saying something. I'm not sure what. The world was going dim and I felt light headed. It occurred to me as I slumped over into Flug's arms that I might've scratched open my neck too much in my nervous state.
