Marissa POV:
Maihua was so bad at skating!! She kept falling over and I had to help her learn. A few times, we held hands. I felt so excited during those times even though she was mostly just using me for support. When we got off, Maihua suggested getting something to eat. The place outside sold some simple fast food, so I got a soft pretzel and some lemonade.
"How is high school going? Do you like going to it? Was it weird no going to high school with all of us and your friends?"
"It was really weird. I'm still best friends with Natalie though. I have some friends at school, but I never really found a group there."
"So.... have you dated anyone or anything like that there?" Maihua looked down as she asked that. She was holding her breath as she looked back up to see my reaction.
"Um. Yeah, actually. Do you remember Mark? Well, we dated actually. Um. We broke up two weeks ago." I knew I had to be honest with her but I didn't want her to think that I was totally straight.
"Oh." Maihua seemed disappointed. She had definitely gotten the wrong idea. "Why did you guys break up?"
"He told me he loved me and I couldn't say it back. I realized... I realized I had never had feelings for him anyways."
Maihua perked up a little bit, gaining back her flirty confidence. "Oh, so boys don't quite do it for you huh. You need a little more..." She looks down a bit to my lips, then back up to meet my eyes, smirking.
Maihua POV:
"...tits" I finish with a laugh. Marissa turned red so quickly, but I know it's ok because she starts laughing. I think she might finally admit to me that she likes girls! I know her mom would disapprove and she probably would take a long time to come out to her mom, but I don't think that would stop her from coming out to me. Her face got serious, and I got ready for her confession.
"Maihua, I don't like girls." I guess I was wrong.
"Ok." I couldn't believe I might have liked her - I thought we really got each other. Of course our little childhood pact had meant nothing to her, we didn't even know what marriage really was then. I stood up to go to the bathroom so I could walk it off. As I turned, I felt her hand slip into mine and hold it firmly.
"Wait! When I say I don't like girls I mean I can't like girls, I mean that my mom would kill me if I liked girls, I mean I don't understand anything, and, and, and I mean I like girls. I mean I like you!" She looked up at me, her eyes filled with passion and confusion and hope. I held her hand closer and sat back down. All my fears from earlier dissipated. I wanted her. I wanted to make it work with her, no matter what it took. "I'm afraid, Maihua. I'm afraid of liking you."
I grabbed her other hand. "I like you too. It's ok. We can figure everything out together. Cmon, let's go back to my house and watch a movie."
At Maihua's house 20 minutes later
"So have you ever heard of the Purge? Want to watch that? I can grab us some popcorn and a blanket."
"Oh yeah sure! I've never seen it but I'm sure it will be fun." It will be fun when you get scared and cuddle with me. I started the movie as soon as I could. We started out just sitting next to each other a little bit apart but I was sure that would change soon.
One Hour Later
Oh my god! Marissa hadn't moved at all, she was watching the movie so intently. She wasn't scared when I thought she would be and she seemed too interested in the movie to sit back. I wanted to hold her so bad.
Marissa POV:
I loved the Purge! It was so good. Maihua didn't seem to like it that much, which was weird because it was her suggestion. I really wanted her to put her arm around me but I didn't know how that would happen so I just kept watching the movie.
As the movie wound down, I leaned back against the couch. Right away, I felt her arm around my shoulders, pulling me in towards her. My stomach dissolved into butterflies and I couldn't think about the movie anymore. I laid my head on her chest, it took everything in me not to kiss her. She was so different from my boyfriend - I had never really wanted to kiss him it was just something we did. But with Maihua, it was so strong that I felt alive for the first time in years. I could feel her heartbeat, going just as fast as mine. She put her hand on my head and ran it through my hair, slowly and temptingly.
After the movie ended, I looked up at her. We were centimeters apart, our noses about to touch. "That was a good ending" I whispered, breathless.
"Yeah" Maihua barely even answered me before she moved her hand to my neck and pulled me in, kissing me fiercely as though we would never be able to kiss again. Everything felt perfect everything felt right. I ran my fingers through her hair, feeling every perfect wave. She gently held my cheek for a moment, and then started kissing my neck. She was running her kisses down my neck and we were almost lying down on her couch when ------ another girl walked in!
