Four - Run and Hide

I didn't know why I was sent to this group. Yes, the children here are "troubled" - like me -  but it's not that much of a problem. And it's certainly not bad enough to take me to a support group over.

It was small only three other people. A boy and two girls. The boy was loud and talkative, the first girl was less extroverted, but still could hold a conversation. Then there was the third child, the second girl.

She stood out against the others. Her short, messy hair was matched with her ripped, dirty clothes. Her cheeks had been bruised and marks of blood, dressed with small scar above her eye. But it wasn't her appearance that made her stand out. It was  her.

Contrasting to the other two she was the quietest. She hasn't spoken for almost the entire session so far. Her manner was submissive; even the way she sat was different. She would bring her legs up to her knees on the chair, holding them, even though she was clearly uncomfortable. Her eyes were always wide looking interest - or danger. She seemed somewhat of a feral child.

The time came for us to introduce ourselves. The support worker was first, used name was Samuel and had always loved helping people. He was 26 and from Oxford. The boy was next, his name was Justin and he was 17.

"I'm legal if any of you girls are free tonight" he winked. The first girl giggled while Samuel frowned. But the second girls wide eyes managed to somehow become even wider. And her already tight grip on her knees intensified.

"Basically, I think I'm here because it has something to do with the fact that I'm a little bit of my head."Justin laughed. "It's not too bad, but sometimes I see things that aren't really there? Well, that's what everyone else says. Personally. I think I'm not too bad."

This one I'm the saddest about cause there wasn't a clean finish to this one. But, alas, that was what was there.
