Chapter 42: Sweet Kisses

•Annie's Pov•
it was a nice and peaceful silence for a while before he turned the radio on and i sung softly. i looked over at mystery boy as we drove all around town, i looked down at his hand sitting in between our seats. i noticed it slowly started to inch closer to me as it gripped onto my thigh, i was surprised but honestly it didn't bother me. he turned to me and mouthed the words 'sorry' i shook my head "it's okay. really, i didn't mind" he looked at me and smiled as he kept his hand on my thigh. when we stopped at a red light, mystery boy quickly pulled out another piece of paper and a pen as he quickly scribbled a message and handed it to me. the note said 'we're almost there, not too long until i reveal myself. i want you to close your eyes right now, it's a surprise:)' i nodded, and closed my eyes as we drove for about another five minutes. the car stopped and i heard mystery boy close his door i waited about a minute or so and he opened mine, grabbing my hand to help me out as I kept my eyes closed. He gently placed his hand over my eyes as he helped steer me in the right direction. Mystery boy than removed his hand from my eyes, and I opened my eyes as I widened them in amazement, the view was beautiful, we were on a hill that overlooked the city accompanied by an adorable picnic. "This is amazing! You really didn't have to go all out" I smiled widely "look how much you got me smiling" I giggled softly, he gently grabbed my hand and we sat down on a blanket and we began eating snacks from his picnic basket. he gently put one of his hands over my eyes and when he removed it, I couldn't believe it. It was him! I can't believe it was him this whole time! That's why I felt like I had such a special bond with him. It all makes sense.
"I hope you aren't mad" he smiled and I shook my head.
"I couldn't be any happier right now!" I smiled again, in fact it was a toothy smile.
He put his hand on my cheek and it made me feel butterflies in my stomach, man I missed that feeling. I fluttered my eyes shut as we both leaned in and locked lips, it was everything that I wanted and much more. We pulled away and it was worth the wait, he took off his blazer and sat it over my shoulders and pulled me close as i laid my head on his shoulder as we enjoyed the breathtaking view. not long after it started raining but it didn't bother us as long as we were together. he pulled out some chocolate covered strawberries and put one in my mouth, I smiled softly as I chewed on it. I grabbed a strawberry and dangled in over his mouth as I laughed softly and he chewed on it, licking my finger as I squealed into laughter. We finished the strawberries and it was still raining. "Let's get you home" he smiled as we packed up the picnic and put the basket and blanket back into the car. "Let's enjoy the view one more time" I nodded as we held hands and walked back over to where we had been sitting, I hugged him tightly as I rested my head into his chest. He softly played with my hair as he soothed me and whispered cute things, before kissing my forehead. "I love you" I said as it comes off muffled into his chest. He gently grabbed my head so that I could look up at him
"and i love you too" he smiled, making me feel butterflies again. he gripped his hands on my waist and lifted me up and spun me around as I wrapped my arms around his neck, he gently placed me back on the ground as I put one hand on his chest and the other played with his brown locks of hair on the back of his head. he pulled me closer as his hands held me tightly and he leaned in, our lips connecting into a sweet and magical kiss. he pulled away and i shyly smiled and bit my lip as he opened the passenger door for me "thank you" I giggled softly "anytime" he said as he walked to the drivers door and he started to drive me back home. the whole ride home, we had a lot of different conversations and occasionally we would burst out singing along to the radio. we eventually made it to my house, well my parents house and i gave him a small peck on the lips "thank you so much for the great night!" I smiled
"anytime, annie. ooh shit i'm sorry. i didn't mean too. it was just out of habit!" he said, quickly apologising and hoping to not hurt my feelings but for some reason it didn't, when he said it, it reminded me of caleb and a small smile appeared on my lips. i gently shook my head as i reassured him that i was totally fine with it
"i like it when you say it" i admitted.
"i missed you like crazy!" he admitted.
"me too" i sighed, realising i should have never let him get away "but you're here now and that's what matters. right?" i asked.
"right" he smiled and brushed his thumb on my cheek "well i better let you go, your parents won't be happy if i keep you to myself any longer" he chuckled and it made me giggle too. "unfortunately" i said playfully as i hopped out of the car and waved as he put his window down.
"goodbye annie!"
"goodbye brennan!" i smiled and headed inside as he waited for me to get inside to make sure i had arrived home safely. i went upstairs to my room and took my make up off before getting into my pyjamas and jumping onto my bed, i pulled my laptop closer to me as i lay down on my stomach and try to facetime hayden. i couldn't wait to tell him who the mystery boy was, i just hope he's not mad considering what happened between him and brennan three years ago.
"heyyy!" i squeal, smiling from ear to ear as he answers my call.
"hey annikan, what's up? you're very smiley" he asked, chuckling.
"the mystery boy is brennan!" i blurted out in excitement.
a smirk appears on Hayden's face before he bursts into laughter "i know, anns. i helped arrange this. that's why i wasn't at the dance but i knew if i told you, you wouldn't want to go."
i feel my cheeks blush as a smile appears on my face again "you skipped the dance and did this for me?" I asked.
"of course. anything for my best friend! and the best girlfriend that i treated the absolute worse"
"i couldn't thank you enough. thank you, hayden!"
"anytime, at least i know that brennan will treat you like a princess. unlike i did which i deeply regret but i'm glad we're at least best friends" hayden said, a small sigh but he was still smiling.
"i know you didn't mean it, you were just horny and immature. but i already forgave you, besides we're better off as best friends anyway" i said.
he nodded "i know, i'm glad you enjoyed the picnic overlooking the city"
"it was your idea, wasn't it?" i asked cheekily, he knew i always wanted to have a date there.
"indeed it was" he said playfully.
"well thank you. again!" i added, happily.
"so tell me. how did brennan put the note on my locker?" i asked, curiously.
"i did it, he told me what to write and i added a little bit to it and i just knew that you'd say yes because otherwise i would've had to convince you otherwise"
"you're very smart" i said, giggling.
he smiled, as my dog angel jumped onto the bed with me "hey angel" he chuckled as she greeted him with a few barks.
"goodnight annie" hayden smiled.
"goodnight hayden. i love you" i smiled.
"i love you too, babe" he chuckled and winked before hanging up. i decided i should just head to sleep now as it was already past one o'clock in the morning. i laid down and instantly fell asleep with angel right beside me.
