it's sunday today, i sat on our couch at the living room. i was constantly changing the channels, but none caught my attention. i'm home alone currently, mom and dad had something to do. it's 9AM and i'm very bored, i tried contacting my friends but they have their own errands to run. so i sat here, slouching my back with a poker face.picking up my phone, i scrolled down on my contacts to see if i have someone to hang out with. i stumbled on the Y section, and it has her name. as a bored and desperate girl i am, i dialled her cell. but as usual, it went to voice message. i frustratingly tossed my phone on the other side of the couch.
yerim was gone, it was days, then days went to weeks. she was 2 weeks missing since our last encounter, and no one had ever known where she was. i heard the doorbell rang so i quickly went to open the door. to my surprise, i saw mrs. and mr. kim, yerim's parents along with mom and dad, and a middle aged inspector, i assumed. "hello and good morning to all of you," i bowed slightly and smiled. "please do come in." they smiled at my kind gesture and i stepped aside to let them in. "your daughter is sure as kind as her parents, we wish we had one like her." mrs. kim said and her husband agreed. they took a sit on the living room, and i was confused if i must stay there or like run to my room and sleep, but before doing the latter, dad pulled me to sit beside him. we were sitting right there with our breaths being heard. "so we came here to talk about kim yerim's absence," my breath hitched as i heard her name. i started to get nervous and anxious, my breath was shaky. "oh, god, she's a prodigy, i swear. i lost count on how many times she ran away." yerim's father sighed, exhaustion in his tone. "you see, this is not a surprising case anymore. but all of us wondered if where on earth she is right now, and we haven't seen any clues as of now, kinda new." the inspector said. my eyebrows furrowed, "hey, ms. sooyoung, when was your last time talking or seeing yerim around and do you know where she is?" their attention diverted to me, and i never felt nervous than before.
"i... the last time i saw her was more than 2 weeks ago, in our last subject and no, i don't know where she is. i'm actually setting aside some of my time to search for her... " my voice got lower, then i wiped my face. "okay, well, yerim's missing now," the man said again. "what a stubborn kid, she was nothing but a stupid girl. she obviously wants attention." her mom's voice interruped the man. "then maybe you can give her some of yours, then she wouldn't run away. that's it, you knew why your kid went missing, then you keep on blaming her." my mom said in a high pitched voice, that made me flip back my hair as i felt nauseous. "that's the point. she lacks attention, and of course, affection from her parents." dad seconded as he rubbed mom's shoulder. "whatever. she's my daughter. mine, and not yours." the room fell silent, then later, the tension got thick until my parents were seriously talking to yerim's parents. the man looked at them boringly, then stood up to meet me. "hey, can i talk to you? alone?" i quickly nod and we went to my room.
"i know you're friends with her," he started. "by the way, call me mr. sung." he offered a handshake which i kindly took. "is there anything i can help? i mean, i'm more desperate to find her than her own parents... i want to see her again." sadness fills me up as i felt my eyes became teary. he sighes, "i understand, she seems like a good friend. well, yerim will get back occasionally. she won't be missing forever, ya know? this is not her first time running away, and after her run away, she comes back." he gave me a comforting smile. "i do wish she will comeback as soon as possible, we're nearly graduating, i want to see her on or before our graduation." i sighed heavily, earning a pitiful look from mr. sung. "she can't just run away forever, she can run but never hide. all of us comes back on where our life started, we never ignore where we first landed our feet on. knowing yerim, she's like any prodigy, she wants attention, and when we try to find her, she became happy that for once, she had everyone's attention. then bang, she comes back." he rubbed his temples, i stared at him and lowered my hand. my tears were threatening to fall, as i bit my lower lip.
where the fuck is this girl? is she satisfied now that my world is revolving around her? she could have all my attention, she can bring me out in an all nighter again, i just don't want her to be out there somewhere, and i don't even know if she's safe. i badly want to see her, i miss her eyes, her smile, her petite body, i miss every inch of her.
"do you know or happen to get some of the clues?" he asked and i lifted my head, "what do you mean clues?" i narrowed my brows. "when she gets away, she always leave clues. like example, when she went to LA, she left a hollywood poster at the door of her room, and when she went to china, she left a drawing of a wall, and it signifies the great wall of china." i laughed in my mind. there she goes with her mysteries again, i never thought that she will be as intelligent as einstein.
clues? she always leave clues, then maybe i can find those quicker than anyone. i need to find them, and i will bring yerim with me. we shook hands with mr. sung as we came out of the room, then there were my parents and hers, discussing something. "thank you for the time, mr. and mrs. park, we will visit you in some other time." we waved goodbye to them as our front door shut close. "geez, where did even kim yerim went? it wasn't her fault, it was her parents fault for failing their responsibilities." i sat down on the couch again as mom and dad continued to talk about yerim.
i will find you yerim, i will.
