RIN'S P.O.V
I can't really say I'm enjoying the walk to UA with Bakugou. He's barely spoken the whole time, and refuses to talk about what just happened whenever I ask. He just says 'you'll find out when we get back', and keeps it at that. I really don't know how I've managed to piss him off, especially since we haven't seen each other in a good few months. But this is Bakugou we're talking about. I guess I should just come to expect it.
Still, he didn't complain when I insisted on taking that poor guy to the hospital. So that's something. But, again, we're walking in silence, my shoulders aching and the back of my neck burning. Plodding along for a straight half an hour with prayer beads rubbing against my nape- I'll be surprised if I don't wake up with a scar there tomorrow morning.
"So uh- Where exactly are we gonna stay?" I ask, desperately trying to get out of this crushing quiet. I can keep a zip on it as much as the next guy, but there comes a point where it gets way too much to deal with. Thankfully, he actually looks at me this time, even if it's with an intense desire to pinch my lips shut and hold them closed.
"Probably in the dorms," he mumbles, stuffing his hands in his pockets. The burns on his arms haven't gotten much better since earlier- I know that straining himself gives him all sorts of ache and pains, but I've never seen him burn like this. Either they were already there before today, or something's seriously wrong with everything around here.
"Do you need to grab an ice pack? There's a Seven Eleven just down the-"
"-I'm fine." He almost snaps that. Not quite, but there's definitely a sharp tone behind his hiss. Something's up, and I doubt he'll talk to me about it. Even after everything we went through together, he's keeping things from me. I should respect his privacy. I shouldn't pry.
That doesn't stop me from grabbing his wrist, however.
Before he can clock on that I've even inched closer to him, I've already pulled one hand out of his pocket, gripping it tight and inspecting the marks all up his arms. "HEY!" He roars, trying to rip his arm free. I don't let him take it back though- instead, I pull him closer until our faces are inches apart, brows pinching together into a frown.
"What happened? I'm not letting go of your arm till you tell me," I rumble, narrowing my eyes in the hopes that they'll pierce through him. Obviously, I can't intimidate the boom boy himself, but I can at least try to get some answers out of him. He knows he can't overpower me. So he'd better start talking.
"It's none of your business!"
"It is my business! I'm your friend!"
"You haven't been here."
"That doesn't change the fact that I care about you," I hiss, sighing and dropping my shoulders. I let him go, tuck my hands deep into my pockets, and let out a small huff as my tail sweeps the floor. He really thinks I don't care? I know it's been a few months, and we've not had a single chance to see each other, but does he really think that I've stopped thinking about them every other minute of every single day? I mean, my boyfriend is one of them. And I don't think I ever stop daydreaming about seeing him again.
"Kirishima accidentally cut my arms up in training, and my explosions burned the open wounds. It's not that big of a deal," he suddenly mutters, head turned to one side. I can't tell if he's speaking the truth, but who am I to call him out? It doesn't sound like it's something that would really happen, but, well, at least he gave me an answer.
I just nod and drop it. This is more than Bakugou keeping a secret from me- already, I'm starting to worry. Do they all think I've just gone and forgotten about them? There's no way Kaminari would, mostly because I never stop texting him whenever I've got the time to spare, but what about the others? Have they lost as much trust in me as Bakugou has?
I guess it's time to find out; after only a few more minutes of awkward silence, we finally arrive at UA. The building looms as a huge, glass structure before us, gleaming in the afternoon sun. Panes of silver glitter as we walk around the premises, probably towards these dorms Bakugou was talking about. Wow. In comparison to True Cross, this place is like a damn skyscraper! All modern and high-tech-looking. It looks like the kind of place to have a mascot or something, just like Kyoto Tower.
Only, as quickly as I was thrust into awe, I'm ripped out of it again when we round the corner. Because there is sits, parked up against the sidewalk, Bon leaning against it looking like a kid in the naughty corner. The bus that was meant to bring us here- the one we both abandoned.
I don't think I even have time to blink before Yukio's right up in my face, gripping my collar and yelling at me at full force. About how I'm still so reckless, even after everything that happened. About how I'm so stupid, and I could've gotten myself killed, and I had no idea what I was rushing into. About how anyone on the street could've seen my flames and set other exorcists from the Musutafu Branch on me. And he's right.
I just don't wanna hear it.
"When I tell you to stay, you stay! Got that?!" He finally snaps, and I know he's finished. As soon as he ends something with 'got that', I know I can sit back and relax again. He lets me go, steps back, and pushes his glasses up his nose, the sunlight bouncing off of them.
"Some things don't change," Bakugou mumbles to himself, shooting me a sharp look before shifting away, heading towards just one building in a long row of structures. So, these must be the dorms, huh?
"Alright, exwires! UA have been kind enough to offer us their dormitories whilst we help them with their ongoing demon problem. Each of you will be sharing a room with a student from 1-A, so listen up as I-"
"-Uh, Yukio?"
"What is it, Rin?"
"I'm not an exwire."
"Does it matter?"
"Yeah, kinda," I hum, tucking my hands behind my head with a snarky smirk, swishing my tail to show off my fancy exorcist coat. All it earns me is a sharp tug of the ear from Bon, who's clearly just salty that I surpassed him so quickly. "Hey, come back to me when you've killed a prince of hell."
"Oh, I'm about to kill one right now!" He snarls, the two of us this close to scrapping when-
"Rin?" I freeze. The second I hear his voice, sharp currents creep up from the ground, sizzling through my nerves and rooting me to the spot. But I manage to at least turn my head, fingertips twitching with a giddy buzz as soon as he comes into view. Just like that, the sudden paralysis breaks completely. I ignore everyone and everything around me and just stumble over to him, pulling him into the tightest hug of my life. And, even then, Kaminari grips me tighter. "I missed you."
"I missed you too," I whisper as I clutch onto my power outlet. Everything melts away. The villain we chased. The demon we exorcised. Yukio wanting to kill me for disobeying his orders again. I just think about him.
"I'm so glad you're here," he whispers, face buried into my shoulder. I just smile, nuzzle my nose into his sparking hair, and close my eyes.
"It's good to be back."
