As Tommy dressed I slid my shorts and bralette back on, carrying the garters and stockings before waltzing back to my room and allowing Tommy to answer the call in peace. She didn't hear much although Tommy wasn't prone to shouting at all. As John had said it was rather creepy how calm he was the majority of the time. He did get angry though, she had seen it.
She dressed once again in Ada's clothes, though Polly had promised to bring her new clothes today. She had chosen a green button down dress that was her absolute favourite colour and the most personal thing she had seen out of the small selection of clothes.
She spun around and the dress splayed our a little but not enough to reveal anything she didn't want it to.
Tommy knocked on her door but gave no room to answer before entering. She smiled a little and he just leaned against the door, impressed by how beautiful she looked.
"Green is definitely your colour." Rowan blushed a little before walking towards him, unsure of what she was actually going to do. Tommy knew this so pulled her into a kiss that felt just as meaningful as their first. When he pulled away, he inspected her hand and decided he should rewrap it with a clean bandage."Come on, we'll fix that up again." Rowan nodded and smiled up at him. "Also I 'ave something I need to ask you... but we've got a family meeting anyway so... I'll ask you then."
Tommy fixed up her hand quickly before everyone arrived and began to eat the large amount of breakfast served for them. Arthur, John sat around Tommy while Rowan kept with the ladies of the family. Finn arrived late and took a seat beside Rowan, smiling a little at her. Polly knew immediately what had occurred last night, the look in both of their eyes told all. She smiled a little and noticed how Tommy seemed a little less... Tommy this morning. He seemed more like his old self, the real him. The one who joked and laughed, who was loving and devoted and not all about business, class and status.
"Right, I 'ave a couple things to say to ya so shut up the lot of ya." Everyone quietened down as Tommy stood to announce whatever it was that the phone call had involved this morning.
"I got a call from Alfie Solomons this morning, he's rescheduled our dinner to this evening. He's booked us all a seat at the finest table in Sabini's club-..."
"You 'ave got to be jokin'." Ada muttered and placed her palm to her forehead. Rowan sat surveying the area with her hands folded in her lap and her back straight.
"Tom, it's a lions den. We're gonna get ourselves killed." Arthur said and Polly took a puff of the cigarette.
"Why would they kill us? They need us to deal with 'em. What's this dinner for Tom?""To discuss arrangements of a shipment of opium that's coming in from the north. Who gets what... and also the fact that we all want to be rid of the billy boys. We're gonna try and devise a plan to get the entirety of the shipment while getting rid of 'em in the north. Alfie says Sabini 'as leverage if some sort, but they won't discuss over a phone. Tonight, we all leave for London. The tables booked for 7:30, don't forget. Finn stay 'ere with Polly and look after everything you two. Alright?"
"Why do I 'ave to stay?" Finn said, anger obviously present at his lack of involvement. Polly needed to stay back anyway, she didn't want to go to London. It was bad memories round there and she wasn't keen on leaving the business unattended.
"Well Pol's got the brain and you've got the brawn... besides... you ain't a Peaky Blinder yet, are ya?" Finn decided not to argue with Tommy but just looked at Rowan who sat uncomfortably before looking at her cut hand, reminding herself of last night."What about Rowan?" John said, and Tommy sighed looking over at the unusual addition to the family.
"Shes coming with us and she's gonna look for that broach. Aren't ya? I'm sure we can find you a dress." Rowan's eyes widened at the news that she would be joining the family on their expedition to have her very own. It was rather exciting... she was going on an adventure to London in the 1920's."It'd be a pleasure to come... but I can't lie and say I'm ecstatic about meeting two infamous London gang leaders." Tommy chuckled and placed a cigarette in his mouth before lighting it.
"Well, you've already met one ain't ya?" She smiled a little at his statement before Ada pulling her up.
"We need dresses and you're paying." She said pointing directly at Tommy, while his hands fiddled around in his pockets for something."Knew you'd say that." He pulled out a £10 note and handed it to her. Rowan noticed that Ada's hand practically shook when taking it.
"Jesus Christ, £10? Isn't that a bit much?" Arthur said and Ada smiled.
"They need to look beautiful so, no." Tommy smiled at Rowan and she did so in return. The whole family watched them and rolled their eyes at the emotive feel between them.'£10 in this time is almost...' Rowan thought you herself and began to work it out. '£300...'
"Holy shit £300 for a couple dresses?" They all looked at her as she once again spoke to herself.
"What?" Finn said.
"In my time, your £10 is about £300. Woah."
"Enough money talk, we have shopping to do." Ada dragged Rowan to the door to put shoes and a coat on for the cool winter air."Wait, Tommy said he needed to ask me something. Can I just... ask what it was?" Rowan muttered and Ada nodded allowing her back in the room.
"Tommy, what did you want to ask me?""I just wanted to ask you to keep your eyes out for the broach, some ex soldiers will be at the club tonight. Okay?" She nodded and slipped out towards Ada while Tommy smiled sadly.
He didn't want her to go.
