My mother is used to me being late.
Just look at her. She knew.

- Hi mom. How are you? - My attempt on trying to hide the fact that I'm late.

- I'm good. Who's the boy who distracted you from being on time?

- Kane. - I winked.

- Too soon, Clarke. Anyways, I thought you made me wake up at 9 o'clock for something more interesting, like you're pregnant, or you have a girl crush or something like that.

I cleared my throat, and ignored her ( in a way true ) comments. At least I'm not pregnant.

- But really, the reason I asked you to come is I need you to give me some advice. Kane told us that when dad died, he shot an officer too. And that happened to be one of my friends' father. Do you know anything about that?

- Well yes, when I had to be by Kane's side, he told me some things about Jake's death. He wanted to put dirt on his name, so I wouldn't miss him so much.

- I hope you didn't believe anything he said.

- What he said to you was true. Although there are some things you still don't know about.

She looked in my eyes with a reassuring smile, and as she collected her thoughts, her smile turned upside down.

I took her hands in mine, and nodded, signaling her to continue.

- Your father and I had enough of this criminal life under Kane's surveillance. He told me the week before his death that he will no longer kill anyone on command.

So when he and Kane's team caught that detective who was so close to unveil the operation, he tried to save him.
The others surrounded them and your father and that detective knew that they would be tortured if they had been taken. So they decided to end each other's life to avoid further suffering.

Wow. That actually makes sense.

I've had similar feelings the last few months, good to know my father chose this side too.
