Time travel is amazing! - said no one ever. Preciselly, said no time traveller ever.
My stomach was used to time jumps but I've been getting tired lately. The last mission we've been to was the French revolution, we stormed the Bastille and were now hovering back in the temporal zone.
- "Gideon, I'm thinking about taking a few days off. Are there any errors in the time line?"
"Hello, captain, so far so good. Should I prepare the jump ship for you?"
- "Hmm... yes, Gideon, yes please."
"Coordinates?"
- "Gotham city, 2019."I promised Kate to pay her a visit. So why not now?
We called along the way and she seemed genuinely happy I was about to come. Well, I didn't put it as a date or anything. But it eventually turned out as one.
The thing I loved most about the time we spent together, was, that we were both normal. We felt normal. Maybe because we both come from different, broken worlds, who knows? Because we understand each other's situation and the life of vigilante, all the responsibilities and the need of giving up personal life for greater good.
Another thing which brought us closer together was the rollercoaster ride through Hell. Literally.
We were chilling in Kate's office on the highest floor of Wayne's tower. Well, chilling in a way that Kate was sitting on the sofa and I was stradling her with arms around her neck, rhytmically leaning in to steal one kiss at a time.
Not to define what we have going on we just decided to go with the flow. We're both incredibly busy with no space for serious relationship in our lives so... Why not enjoy ourselves when we have the opportunity.
"How long do you think until you get a call from the Waverider?"
- "Kate, don't even dare to say such thing. It's been quiet for a day and I'm worried...."Yeah. Just like that.
My phone buzzed and we both rolled my eyes: "See? Why did you have to mention the Waverider, Kate?"Of course it was Gideon. I put her on speaker.
"Captain Lance, hope I don't interrupt."- "Yes, you do Gideon. What is it?" - "The team needs your assistance. Demons escaped from Hell..." - "WHAT???"I looked at Kate and she was just as confused as I was.
- "Demons? Gideon???" - "John Constantine will explain once you come back to the ship, Captain." - "Well can you do a hint?" - "I'm afraid I cannot. The latest events involving Astra and Mallus caused a time quake and..." - "Shit, I should have known... All right, Gideon, be there soon. Please don't let my crew burn the whole world down until then."The call ended. I looked at Kate and sighed: "I'm so sorry, babe, but I have to go."
"No worries, cap. Your team needs you to save the time again."
- "Well, yes. Oh, speaking of demons, have you heard anything from Nyx?"
"NO."Ugh, that NO was too obvious. Either Kate was lying or really didn't hear from her and it pissed her off. I'd guess it was the second option. And she didn't want to spare two more seconds talking about Nyx.
- "See you again soon."
"Bye, babe."
I put on my black denim jacket and kissed Kate goodbye. One last smirk when I looked back at her over my shoulder and I headed to the jump ship.- "Now what the fuck is going on here. I can't leave you alone for two days!?"
"Sara, ugh... hi, love."Constantine looked tense as he jumped from the armchair with drink in his hand.
- "Speak." I leaned my butt on the table near the control panel and folded arms over my chest. Why do I have the feeling I'm not going to like his explanation? My sixth sense was right. When Constantine said: "Ummm Astra freed demons and evil souls from Hell and Purgatory and they roam the Earth, behaving even more evil than the last time," I lost it hit the table with my palm almost breaking it in half.
