7 : 00 am

"marty, it's time for school." marty's mom came to my door.

"i'm up." he sighed.

"it's only 7."

"i have to meet up with some people from the spikes."

"you riding with iris after school?"

"isn't she meeting with kira today?"

"yeah, but you could ride with me." iris said, walking past his room.

"i'm good. i could just take my car."

they walked to the dining room.

"they have some leads on her case." iris whispered to marty once they sat down.

"what do you mean?"

"her dad got into some... business, and didn't pay some gang dude the money he owed. now they're trying to find the place where they're at."

"they've been trying to find the place for 31 days. that's not even a lead."

"if they find out who the gang is, then they'll find out where she is."

"okay." he sighed, "i need to go meet with the spikes. i'm leaving, mom!"

"have a good day, marty!" his mom said from her room.

"see you at school, loser." iris waved.

"don't call your brother a loser, iris." their mom scolded iris.

marty walked to his red ford fusion and got in.

he's not really meeting with the spikes.

or anyone from the spikes.

he's actually meeting with someone who claims they saw buffy after marty dropped her off.

before marty pulled out of his driveway, he pulled out his phone only to be greeted with what he saw everyday.

his home and lock screen.

his lock screen was a picture that cyrus took of buffy and marty during a game of basketball.

the sky was filled with pink, blue, and purple tinted fluffy clouds.

buffy had hopped onto his back after they finished their game tied.

his home screen?

a picture of a fort they built on their one year anniversary out of blankets and chairs.

buffy was falling asleep so she ended up falling sleep on marty's legs, so he took a picture.

he truly loved her.

he's loved her since they were thirteen.

now they're so fifteen and sixteen.

and she got ripped out of his arms.

he was broken.

saddened.

she was his best friend and he was her's.

marty put on his directions to go to jonah's house.

not many in their friend group has talked to jonah since ninth grade.

he got popular and left them all.

jonah lives a street away from buffy's house.

their friend group used to be the most popular in middle school.

once they were in high school, they were demoted to second popular.

not really demoted, more so tied with the other popular group.

rachael, jaycee, corbin, jonah, jacobi, and aspen as the rivals.

aspen and corbin are friends with cyrus, and usually ask cyrus for therapeutic help with their problems.

once marty pulled up at jonah's house, he got out of his car and walked up to jonah's from door.

knock, knock, knock.

"jio, you can't even reach the door knob." jonah said, picking up his baby brother and opening the door, "oh. hey barry."

"cut the crap. you know my name." marty rolled his eyes.

"fine. what do you want, marty?"

"you said you were the last to see buffy, right?"

"yeah. she lives across the street from me so..."

"what happened once i left?"

"you wanna come in?" jonah opened the door wider to let marty in.

"i'm staying in for ten minutes then i'm leaving." marty sighed, walking into jonah's house.

"you could go to the kitchen island. i just need to set jio in his crib." jonah walked to the small playpen in the living room and walked a couple feet back into the kitchen, "long story or short story?"

"short. i have to go pick someone up."

"well basically, your car drove off, she walked into her house but her dad didn't show up all night. then at like two in the morning i heard yelling so i woke up and i thought kira had come over and it was just a regular buffy and kira argument. but then the following morning, the police were at her house. and you know the rest."

"was it like, buffy's voice yelling?"

"it was buffy yelling at somebody and the other guy yelling at her back."

"boy or girl?"

"i don't know."

"was it like an argument, type of thing?"

"yeah, in a way. it was just like-"

then marty got a phone call.

"what do you want, iris?" marty stood up and took the call.

"great to hear your voice too." iris sarcastically remarked.

"iris, what do you want?"

"come pick me up, dork. mom took my car cause her car wouldn't turn on."

"sure." he hung up and faced jonah, "i need to go. have a good day, i guess."

"you have a good day too." jonah said opening up the door for him.
