Betty's POV
At lunch, Jonathan and I sit down at our normal tables which usually consists of the two of us.
Except not today.
Jonathan and I are eating our food, discussing newspaper stuff when Kavinsky and Peter sit down across from us. I glance at Jonathan who looks between the two boys in confusion. No one ever sits with us, except occasionally Archie Andrews, our friend from grade school.
"Uh, hi," I say with a smile at the newcomers. "Jonathan, this is Peter Parker and Peter Kavinsky."
Jonathan extended his bony hand awkwardly to the boys and shakes both of them.
"You're in my science class right?" Jonathan asks Peter, trying to make conversation with them.
Peter shrugs. "Probably, I wasn't really paying attention."
"Yeah we're all in the same science," I answer Jonathan's question. "Kavinsky's in the other science room with Mrs. Barker."
"She's kinda weird," Kavinsky states.
Jonathan and I both agree with him on that. She was our yearbook advisor last year and it's a miracle the thing got done.
I notice that both Cheryl and Veronica aren't at lunch today. What a relief. I don't have the emotional strength today to deal with their useless bickering.
"Excuse me," a voice says, catching our attention. All four of our heads turn to the little Korean girl looking straight at Kavinsky.
"You're the guy that just moved in next door right?" She asks him.
An embarrassed look comes across Kavinsky's face as he nods. "Yeah....sorry about-"
"Well it's nice to meet you," she interrupts, extending her hand stiffly to him. "I'm Lara Jean."
Kavinsky looks almost relieved that she cut him off and shakes her hand. "I'm Peter, most people call me Kavinsky. This is my stepbrother....Peter."
"That's why they call you Kavinsky?" She asks, cocking her head to the side.
"Well, no," Kavinsky says. "That's what my lacrosse coach used to call me and it kind of stuck."
"Oh, I see," she says with an awkward smile before looking at the rest of us. "Peter, nice to meet you."
Then she looks at Jonathan and I. "I should know who you two are," she apologizes. "But I don't remember."
"I'm Betty," I introduce myself. "This is Jonathan."
"Right, from last years English class," she remembers. "Good times."
"You can sit down if you want," Kavinsky offers.
She looks at him as though she's never been offered to sit with anyone before. "Really? That's nice of you."
She sits down next to Jonathan and my foot chooses at that moment to spasm and kick Peter.
I close my eyes and try to tell myself it didn't happen, but when I open them again, Peter's looking at me funny.
"Sorry," I apologize and continue to eat my food.
"It's all good," he says and then we go on like it never happened.
I can see Jonathan looking at me out of the corner of my eye like I'm crazy. Kavinsky and Lara Jean are talking about God knows what, and Peter, Jonathan and I are all sitting in silence, trying to find something to talk about. Just then, another tray is set down beside Kavinsky and a dark haired, blue eyed girl sits down, looking excitedly at Lara Jean, who basically chokes on her food.
